Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold speaking to Match of the Day: "When you have momemtum and good form you want the games to keep coming. We are happy with the way things are going. We are picking up a lot of points but we know there are still a lot of games to come and the FA Cup on the weekend. We are looking forward to the rest of the season.

"It was something we spoke about - controlling the game more and not being so hectic. We were too open to try and get more goals. We want to keep the ball and tire the opposition out.

"So far we are invicible but we have only just passed the halfway mark so there's still a long way to go. It is harder than what people say. We got beaten once last season and that wasn't enough. We need to keep our concentration in every game."

Oliver O'Shea: Liverpool have double the points of Sheffield Utd. Crazy stuff.

More from Chris Wilder to BT: "It was really below par performance. Apart from the goalkeeper, he made two or three great saves and kept us in it. We had one or two chances but it was a really below par performance. When you come into the Premier League you do expect one of these performances so for it to be in our 20th or 21st game and it be the first time it has happened, I can take a little bit of comfort from that.

"We need to dust ourselves off. I wish Jurgen all best. I love everything about them. The physical and mental part of it is amazing."

David: No one outside of Liverpool fans will say it, but Jordan Henderson is one of the top midfielders in the Premier League. I am biased, however, in my opinion he is behind only De Bruyne as the best midfielder in the Prem this season.

Steve in Milan: Steady on Liverpool fans. As well as Liverpool are going, the others are having bad seasons. Blackburn and Leicester have won the Prem more times than Liverpool. Talk about Liverpool as great after they win it 3 or 4 times.

Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder, speaking to BT Sport: "Very unlike us. Look both parts of game, we didn't lay a glove on them. We didn't do anything that has got us into this position. They were outstanding but didn't have to get out second or third gear.

"People talk about academy coaches and all this nonsense about technical and tactical stuff. At home we laid a glove on them and made it difficult for them.

"They won every first ball, every second ball, ran forward and ran back and they did that better than us. All this nonsense that comes out about coaching, have a peak at Liverpool tonight. They played in second and third gear and still had the humility and desire to do that as world champions and European champions and well on their way to being Premier League champions."

Mohamed Salah's opening goal was his 50th left-footed strike for Liverpool in the Premier League - only Robbie Fowler (85) has netted more for the club in the competition.

Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder speaking to MOTD: "Little bit drained. Disappointed in our performanc tonight, we never laid a glove on them. If there's ever an example of a team doing well and with the desire, that's Liverpool.

"The first balls, second balls, running forward, tackling, defending, being aggressive; they [Liverpool] showed all those qualities. It's a great example for our team. We were off pace today. Maybe the Manchester City game took more out of them than I expected. I think our goalkeeper kept us in the game. For us to get anything, we would have had to perform really well and we didn't.

"Every time we tried to press they played around us with the quality they have got. All the stuff that gets talked about in academies, with young coaches - just look at what they did tonight in terms of the basic stuff that gives you an opportunity to play and dominate. That's what they did to us. Not only technically, but tactically, they are a fantastic side. We have been well beaten tonight.

"People talk about us having afternoons and nights like this when we came to the Premier League. We have not had that done to us all season until now so that's a small comfort. But it still hurts, we are still professionals. I believe if we played near our best we could have got something but we weren't anywhere near it."

Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp talking to BT Sport on going a year unbeaten in the Premier League:

"It says a lot of positive things. I have not enough words for it, it is exceptional.

"We did not think about the year tonight. Our New Year starts at the end of May, so we have season resolutions not New Year resolutions."

Sheffield United

Sheffield United defender Jack O'Connell: "It was bad. It was a tough game. I don't think we turned up. We weren't physical and showed them too much respect. It was very disappointing.

"Obviously they are a very good team. They are European champions and are there for a reason but we showed them too much respect.

"It's the basics of football. They did it better than us, along with their quality. It's still a bit raw because we have had two defeats now. We just have to bounce back."

Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to Match of the Day: "It's obviously good [to go unbeaten for a year] but the target tonight was not to extend this, but to win the game. The best thing you can say when you play against Sheffield United is to keep the game not spectacular. We controlled the game.

"We played around their formation, played behind, in-between, broke the lines and had counter-attacks. All the things we want to have. The boys played sensational.

"You saw these glimpses in the game where we were a bit sloppy. They wanted two or three situations in which they could score in. We needed that concentration and that was incredibly tough but the boys did so well. Nothing ends. We have to make sure we are ready again.

"I am really happy and really proud of the boys. We should not take things like this for granted. The way we controlled Sheffield United tonight was exceptional. In possession we were incredible, we were calm but lively as well. The goals we scored were exceptional."

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is disappointed. The interviewer says 'you weren't really able to lay a glove on them' and he responds:

"Yeah, exactly that, you must have just heard my talk!"
