Richarlison will probably come out to the left now, with Cenk Tosun going up front.

It’s not a massive deal for Everton – Richarlison has played out on the left for them before.

Now Gabriel Martinelli is down in the Everton half. Dropping like flies. He's holding his ankle after a challenge with Sidibe.

Referee initially doesn't spot it but then does wave the physio on.

Everton are pressing the ball high up the pitch with Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin.

It's a 4-4-2 when they're in possession, when they lose the ball one of the forwards drops off into the number 10 position.

It's a decent enough start. The game hasn’t really settled down yet, but Everton look comfortable pressing high up the pitch.

Tosun is straight into the action, firing a shot over the bar from the edge of the box. Sliced it.

Cenk Tosun does come on for Iwobi.

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal

The sun is causing some of the Arsenal defenders problems. David Luiz is the latest shielding his eyes as the ball comes to him.

In the meantime, Alex Iwobi's first game against his old team is over. Not sure of the problem but he is limping off. Looks like Cenk Tosun will be his replacement.

The answer is no. Straight to Martinelli again at the near post. Grumbles from the stands, and rightly so.

Everton win a second corner. Can Digne deliver a better ball this time?

Duncan Ferguson is not a manager who sits. I'm pretty sure he's spent his entire caretaker tenure on his feet so far, usually screaming.

He won't have been pleased to see Reiss Nelson beat a couple of men in the box and almost get a shooting chance before a little stumble and a recovering defender prevent it.

  10. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal

Everton win the first corner, but Lucas Digne's delivery is woeful and hammered away at the near post by Gabriel Martinelli.

Everton immediately on the hunt, chasing the ball ferociously as Arsenal play it square along the edge of their own box.

  15. Lawro's predictionpublished at 12:28 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

    Everton v Arsenal (12:30 GMT)

    Mark Lawrenson

Everton's caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson will still be in charge of the Toffees for this game, while Mikel Arteta will be in the stands after being appointed Arsenal manager.

Ferguson has had three good results since taking temporary charge - yes, they went out of the Carabao Cup on penalties to Leicester on Wednesday but they are still unbeaten in actual games.

It just shows what these Everton players can do under someone who knows how to get hold of them and get them at it, but as a squad they are definitely a work in progress.

That's why I have my reservations about Carlo Ancelotti, if he does get the job. He is not a builder, he is more of a roofer because he is a manager to finish a job off.

Similarly, Arteta has a huge task to turn Arsenal around, because their defensive issues are long-standing and well known. He is going to need some help.

But his arrival, if it happens in time, will give the team a bit of a bounce.

Goodison Park will be rocking again for Duncan, though, and that will have an effect too.

    Prediction: 1-1

  16. 'Every managerial appointment is a gamble'published at 12:26 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

    Everton v Arsenal (12:30 GMT)

    Simon Brotherton
    BBC commentator

These are two clubs with - or on the brink of - new leadership in the dugout, and the hope that an upturn in fortunes comes with it.

Carlo Ancelotti would be quite a coup for Everton, but likely watching from the stands on Saturday as Duncan Ferguson's brief but reinvigorating caretaker reign gets one final outing. Four points from two tough league fixtures has been a real bonus for them.

Every managerial appointment is a gamble and that certainly seems the right word when considering Mikel Arteta's arrival at Arsenal. His tenure officially starts on Sunday so he could be sitting near Ancelotti at Goodison Park rather than on the bench!

Arsenal are as close to the relegation zone as they are to the top four but might prefer being away for this one, as they're on their longest winless streak at home in a quarter of a century.

Here come the players out of the tunnel at Goodison. Lots of eyes on the stands today, but the main event is taking place on the pitch.

  18. Ancelotti can 'stroke a few egos'published at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

    Everton v Arsenal (12:30 GMT)

    Alan Shearer
Former Newcastle and England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Look at Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola. You hear about their man-management skills. That’s what makes them very, very good managers.

Everton have that now in Ancelotti. You need to stroke a few egos from time to time. Ancelotti can do that.

  19. 'Arsenal can't play the Man City way'published at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

    Everton v Arsenal (12:30 GMT)

    Dion Dublin
Former Man Utd striker on BBC Football Focus

Arsenal will hope Mikel Arteta will have extracted some knowledge by working under the best coach in the world at Man City.

But I'm not sure Arsenal have the personnel to play the way Man City do at the moment, so it'll be interesting to see how Arteta sets them up.

  20. 'Arteta part of a new trend'published at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

    Everton v Arsenal (12:30 GMT)

    Mark Lawrenson
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Football Focus

Everton's XI looks like a Duncan Ferguson team.

But the Arsenal team, I think Mikel Arteta will have picked it.

I can't understand Arsenal. In the summer they signed a £72m winger when everyone could see they needed new centre-backs.

Arteta is part of a new trend; you look at the likes of Lampard, Solskjaer and Gerrard, 10 years ago ex-players wouldn't have been anywhere near those jobs.
