That is better from David Luiz, who rises to meet a corner and heads the ball away. Mina was in the hunt, but wasn't able to get close to the ball.

David Luiz has had several conversations with referee Kevin Friend and still has not received a yellow card. He is very fortunate after a fair few impetuous challenges.

The latest of these saw Luiz send Tosun to the turf with a clumsy challenge, provoking howls from the home fans.

A half-decent Arsenal move sees Emile Smith-Rowe and Reiss Nelson combine down the right before the ball is swung in low for Aubameyang. Pickford is wise to them, though, and dives out to gather.

Not sure about two wounded antelopes fighting. Mice? Molluscs??

    David G

I've only been watching a few minutes, but they look to me like two teams who are really trying to impress their new managers, but just aren't very good. Like a local amateur dramatics star showing off to the person in the audience they fancy.

Unlike Bernd Leno, Jordan Pickford has gone for a baseball cap to deal with the sun. He's having to steel himself at the moment because Arsenal are looking to make something happen.

A cross from the right is too close to the keeper, though, and he is out to gather.

Mayanja: Is it just me, or do football supporters/fans moan too much these days? Certainly on social media.

Harry: One very bad game occasionally and that means the Premier League is rubbish? Some of you are so fickle.

Another attacking move for Everton comes to nothing because of player error. The home side are away down the right but Cenk Tosun's cross-field ball to Tom Davies is behind the midfielder and goes out of play.

The home fans want action taken for a couple of nibbles Arsenal players had at Sidibe during the build-up, but Kevin Friend is content they were legal.

Oh, Saka lad. You need to be careful. He's already been booked and raises his boot in a challenge with an Everton player. Catches him too.

Ref Kevin Friend is lenient, though. That has surely used up a final lifeline.

Another corner wasted as the ball from Sigurdsson drifts harmlessly to the back of the box after all the Everton players had charged to the six-yard box.

Qidaam Bul: Everton vs Arsenal is like watching two wounded antelopes fighting.

Mickey Haimes: Given that there's £200m+ talent on the pitch, very disappointing game as a neutral. Complete lack of quality, direction, and identity.

It was a decent delivery and really Aubameyang should have scored but it will go down as a great save by Pickford.

Both sides are showing a bit more intent now, hopefully we'll have a goal to report on soon.

Oh, how has Aubameyang not scored?

The corner is nodded on and falls to the striker at the back post. He is unmarked, with just Pickford to beat but fails to do so with his shot coming off his ankle and allowing the home keeper to palm the ball over.

Soon after, the striker has another sight of goal but his effort from the edge of the box is soft and easy for Pickford.

Dare we hope that the game is livening up?

Good tackle, Yerry Mina. Arsenal are into the box but the big Colombian sticks out his leg to prevent a shot and concede a corner.

We've seen precious little of Reiss Nelson so far, but his driving run wins his side a corner. Nelson himself takes but it is cut out at the near post and cleared.

Is is naive of me to believe professional footballers should be able to beat the first man at corners?

Good little bit of intensity from Everton ends up with Richarlison having a shot. There's a little to be encouraged by there.

Tackles flying in all over the shop in the opening minutes of this half. This is primarily because most of the players' control is so bad. Granit Xhaka gets caught by Fabian Delph and goes seeking revenge on Tom Davies, who gets a foul.
