Manchester City's high press I mentioned earlier is working well. The game is being played in the Leicester half and the visitors cannot get out - and as the pressure is building, so is the volume from the home fans.

The only noise the Leicester supporters have made so far is some half-hearted booing of former hero Riyad Mahrez.

Riyad Mahrez looks up for this one.

The Algerian might not have had quite the impact he wanted after his £60m move from Leicester in 2018 but he is still a fabulous player.

He provided the pass for Kevin de Bruyne's effort that hit the post and Gabriel Jesus should have done better after Mahrez set him up just then.

Now Leicester manage to break for the first time, did they watch how Manchester United did it here?

Jamie Vardy is set free down the right but his low cross is just out of the reach of team-mate Harvey Barnes.

Man City are looking to Riyad Mahrez all the time, and why not.

But this time the winger's cross is cut out.

  5. GREAT SAVE!published at 17 mins

    Man City 0-0 Leicester

    Riyad Mahrez is ON IT.

The Man City winger shows fabulous footwork to escape Ben Chilwell and he lays the ball off for Gabriel Jesus, whose effort from close range is brilliantly tipped away by Kasper Schmeichel's sharp save.

On the next move, Jesus heads straight at the Leicester skipper.

Riyad Mahrez looks up for this against the club he won the Premier League title with.

The Algerian wizard shifts left and then back onto his right, but the deflected shot loops straight into the hands of goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

  7. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 14 mins

    Man City 0-0 Leicester

    Leicester are under real pressure.

The hosts nearly open the scoring courtesy of the in-form Kevin de Bruyne, but the Belgium international's rasping low drive from the angle rattles the foot of the post.

  14. Man City looking to get their press rightpublished at 17:37 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

Manchester City's high press was by-passed too easily last time they played here, against Manchester United - who ripped them apart on the break.

With Jamie Vardy on the pitch, there is obviously the danger of that happening again. But, so far, the home side have been much quicker in closing down the Foxes in the opposition half, and their passing when they are in possession has been much slicker too.

The excellent Caglar Soyuncu straight into the thick of the action, stretching out a long leg to intercept Bernardo Silva's cutback into the six yard box.

Ilkay Gundogan then blazes a shot over from long range.

  19. Pep won't be going back for Evanspublished at 17:31 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

    Man City 0-0 Leicester

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

Pep Guardiola made efforts to sign Jonny Evans when the former Manchester United man was at West Brom.

In the end, Manchester City went for a younger, more expensive central defensive option in Aymeric Laporte.

Given City's defensive issues this season, Guardiola was asked yesterday if he could try and sign Evans next month.

    The answer was definitively negative.
