It would have been very harsh to give that. But we have seen them given this season by VAR. Inconsistency...

    VAR says no.

They must think Ben Mee could do nothing to get out of the way of it. His arm was close to his body.

    The crowd don't like it.

Burnley look to break quickly down the left but Southampton get bodies back quickly. It's only half-cleared and Jannik Vestergaard plays Charlie Taylor onside.

Chance! Burnley win the ball back high up the pitch and have numbers in support as Dwight McNeil darts down the left.

He cuts it back into the middle but it's slightly behind Jeff Hendrick, who can only scuff it forwards. It lands at the feet of Jay Rodriguez about a yard out but he's way offside.

    Chance gone.

Burnley are looking in control at the moment. Southampton just keep trying to play through the middle and Burnley are just nicking the ball back.

If Burnley's final ball had been a little bit better they might have been in for another goal. There is a little bit of discontent around the ground at the moment.

Burnley are in no rush to take these throw-ins. They are doing everything possible to kill any momemtum Southampton were hoping to build in reaction to that second goal.

Alex McCarthy, no doubt feeling the frustrations of the home fans behind his goal, rushes his kick and pings it straight out for a throw-in.

I just said two minutes ago he hadn't touched the ball much since coming on. The way he's manipulated the ball to get it onto his left foot is just brilliant, the finish is top class. It is an unbelievable finish.
