Raheem Sterling is gifted possession and runs into the Germany box. A tackle sends the ball straight to Harry Kane, who looks to be around Manuel Neuer before the outstretched leg of Mats Hummels nicks the ball away.

The ball hits the heel of Bukayo Saka and diverts away.

Harry Kane is still waiting for his first touch of the ball inside the box but in the last 10 minutes or so we have seen him getting involved more by dropping deep to help build attacks.

He did well Hummels because Kane tries to use his body here. He knows the flight is a bit short and almost tries to lean into Matts Hummels to stop him winning the ball. He gets around him and gets a vital header to clear it for a corner. It's a good delivery though.

Kalvin Phillips into the book. He stuck a boot in to foul Toni Kroos. That is both the Leeds midfielder and Declan Rice on yellows. Be smart, lads.

Hummels completes a fine minute by heading away the resulting corner.

Kieran Trippier goes quick to try and find Harry Kane but Mats Hummels is alive to it and gets between man and ball. That's the experience showing.

It's definitely a free-kick. Lovely turn from Harry Kane. I think it's still too far out for Kieran Trippier.

Maybe just a few yards too far out for a hit?

This is where I think Harry Kane can be a bit more of a nuisance when the ball goes in that channel. Can he run in the channel? Can he stretch them the other way?

Malcom: Everyone blaming Kane. Where's the service? We've barely crossed half way and when we do there is no central midfield to support Harry.

What we haven't seen a German centre-back isolated and up against one of Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka. Credit to Germany for snuffing out any danger of that so far.

Harry Kane has got to work harder for those positions. He is a world class striker. They know that. They're going to be watching him more than anyone else. He's got to work twice as hard as anyone else to get that extra yard of pace to get those shots off. We've not seen that from him. Even as an attempt, we've not seen it. At the minute he's non-existent.

England's game is all about control. Of the ball and territory.

They have had periods in this game where they have been building to a crescendo. But they haven't been able to truly hammer an advantage home.

Kyle Walker is absolute lightning. So even when Kai Havertz has a yard, he hasn't a prayer of getting away. Out comes the boot and attack over.

Kevan: Would be a bold move but we have to replace Kane, he’s clearly not fit. Calvert-Lewin and Mount on at half-time. Kane and Phillips off.
