Kalvin Phillips has had a bit of joy down the right. For a second time, he gets in only to see his cross blocked.
Soon after, he is back near his own box to smash into Kai Havertz. Fairly, but so he knows full well he is there.

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live
England are playing a lot better now. I think they still have a problem with this three at the back when Germany are dropping into those pockets. One of the centre-backs doesn't know whether to go or to stay.
I have been really happy with Kalvin Phillips, the way he is engaging. He is the one who is trying to help Kane out and pressing in the second line.

One thing the three at the back formation does afford is the England centre-backs to move forward when the chance allows.
Harry Maguire has already sought to do so and Kyle Walker is holding a high position.

Kit: Maguire makes a huge difference for England, always has his head up and passes it forward
Anon: Maguire is showing just why Man Utd paid so much for him

England 0-0 Germany
Harry Maguire has had more shots (two) and touches in the opposition's box (three) than any other player so far.
England 0-0 Germany
England need to be very careful with a high line. Joshua Kimmich is released down the right and dangerously into home territory.
The flag goes up, but only because the German wing-back went a tad too early.

HotDog: Who'd have thought Jordan Pickford would be the best goalkeeper at the Euros? Huge player for us so far in this tournament. Huge.

Werner has to score. We know he is not a great finisher, he needs three or four chances a game. Wonderful pass, he just has to lift it over Pickford who went to ground early.

First chance of the game this. Kai Havertz is brilliant. A lot of time, a lot of pace. You can't give him that because that's what he delivers. Right on the money. The run from Timo Werner was good, but the save from Pickford was better.

Save!
Jordan Pickford to the rescue. He stays tall as Timo Werner is found with a superb through ball. The Chelsea striker's shot is then blocked by the Everton number one's legs.
Big moment. England survive it.
England 0-0 Germany
The average position graphic for the first 15 minutes or so made for grim reading for England fans but things are looking better now after a good spell. The hosts are focusing their attacks down the right with Bukayo Saka in particular getting forward at every opportunity.

Nick: Even Guy Mowbray and JJ sound nervous!
England 0-0 Germany
Germany come close.
They work it well down the right and Joshua Kimmich teases in a cross to the back post. Timo Werner is there, as is Robin Gosens, but neither make contact under pressure.
England 0-0 Germany
First sign of one of those superb long passes that Kalvin Phillips has in his locker. It releases Raheem Sterling but his cross, after cutting back inside, is headed away. Again.
Harry Kane remains somewhat absent for England.
England 0-0 Germany
Germany have not touched the ball much in the last 10 minutes, other than to clear dangerous balls into the box from England.
Keep pushing.

They can't all be 3-3 classics, Daniel. Don't tell me you're not loving/hating every minute of this?
