    FT: England 2-0 Germany

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Apart from one or two occasions England have defended well.

Going forward, if we are going to play a back three, the wing backs have to be more creative. They have to be wing backs instead of full backs.

Gareth had a solid base, and he thought can the front three go and win it and his game plan has worked out well.

Moray: Two things 1). Jurgen Klinsmann is a total gent on BBC One 2). Watching fans celebrate at Wembley in slow motion makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck

  4. Low critical of teams finishingpublished at 19:51 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

Speaking in the post match press conference Joachim Low thinks it is very simple what his team needed to do better:

"We didn't take opportunities of the two great chances we had with Muller and Werner. You need to take advantage of them if you want to succeed. The English team did that. We were not clinical enough or effective enough."

Yes, that is the end of Joachim Low's decade and a half as Germany boss. He will be succeeded by Hansi Flick.

A disappointing end, but he deserves to be remembered fondly having delivered the World Cup in 2014. They were also runners-up in the 2008 Euros and reached three semi-finals during his tenure.

    Not to be sniffed at.

  7. 'Low can walk out on a high'published at 19:45 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    FT: England 2-0 Germany

    Jurgen Klinsmann
Former Germany head coach on BBC One

We didn't expect England v Germany in a last 16 match. Joachim Low can walk out on a high. He gave so much in the last 15 years to Germany and German football. Winning the World Cup, going far in most of the other tournaments apart from Russia. He should be proud of himself. It's not a shame to lose against England.

  8. Details missing for Germanypublished at 19:43 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Moritz Volz
Former Fulham right back on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think detail has gone amiss for Germany. In all four games at these Euros we went behind. That is something that is not a coincidence. But over four games it is a lack of detail.

  13. 'A special moment for me'published at 19:32 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    England 2-0 Germany

    England

England forward Raheem Sterling tells BBC One: "It sounds good, we knew we needed to put a big performance in against a good side and we did that today.

"Doing it for your country will always be special and it is a special moment for me.

"I celebrated and for half a second I thought 'let it not be offside'. Really happy it went in and got the win.

"We knew the intensity we can play at and not a lot of teams can deal with it. The two players in midfield, Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips, ate up the grass and were animals in there.

"We take it game by game, recover and focus for the next one."

I'm a huge fan of Raheem Sterling. He takes people on, he's courageous and he helps out defensively too. He's very disciplined in his game, he's very mature for his game.

    Alan Shearer

The manager deserves huge credit for sticking with Sterling. There was a lot of criticism flying around before the tournament, and when the manager sticks with you you've got to go out and perform, and nobody's performed better than Raheem Sterling in this tournament for England. He's been their go-to guy for the games

  18. Respect for Raheempublished at 19:23 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    FT: England 2-0 Germany

    We certainly can, Rio...

Raheem Sterling has now scored 15 goals in his last 20 appearances in all competitions for England, after going 27 games without finding the net prior to this run.

Sterling is only the second player to score each of England's first three goals of an edition of a major tournament (World Cup & EUROs), after Gary Lineker did so at the 1986 World Cup.
