I thought Lucas Moura was the best player on the pitch in the first half. He was very sharp from the off. He's got electric pace and is strong. I think we all know he's a better player when he's facing goal. He played as a number nine tonight and it's a different skill. I find it difficult to be critical of Tottenham at the moment because Jose Mourinho's been there for 14 games. It's going to take time to implement your style.

The frustrating thing for Tottenham fans is that Jose is trying to adapt his management style to not be a negative manager. He knows people want attacking football now and he's trying to find a fine balance between getting that attacking threat right and also the defensive side.

When Tottenham got the first goal they controlled large parts of the game. Then they got the second - both were gifts from Middlesbrough. They looked comfortable in the first 45 minutes but had it all their on way.

Once Middlesbrough put some pressure on Tottenham you saw that, the way the game was unfolding, they didn't have a clean sheet in them. They didn't look confident at the back, they didn't look solid in midfield.

Eric Dier and Harry Winks gave the ball away far too often. Son was a threat when he came off the bench but the bright spark was young Japhet Tanganga at right-back. He played really well.

Midddlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate: "I don't like losing games and when you gift Tottenham goals like that so early you're fearing the worst. But my players showed character and we ran them close.

"If there's a way to lose then it's like that - putting a real show on and a real fight. The players gave everything for the shirt."

On the early error from keeper Tomas Mejias: "We all make mistakes and I won't hammer anyone for that - we want them to play out from the back."

I think in the second half Middlesbrough showed more about what they've been about recently. In the first half I think they were a bit shell shocked, they struggled to find their feet. Only going in at 2-0 allowed them to get some composure. They gave a good account of themselves. They remain a confident team on the up.

That performance didn't tell me that Tottenham are going forward in a hurry. Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez aren't playing with confidence. It's not the fittest Jan Vertonghen I've seen. And in midfield I don't see any screen, any protection.

If you're a midfield player I think you can easily run off the back of Eric Dier or Harry Winks. They're not that leggy where they're going to keep tracking you back.

Paulo Gazzaniga has got to do a lot better with the Middlesbrough goal. People talk about Jose Mourinho and clean sheets but you can't legislate for mistakes like that as a manager.

Japhet Tanganga had a couple of chances, it was a great display. He speaks really well, he's mature, he seems a real good prospect for the club.

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho, speaking to BBC Sport: "3-0 was so close so many times. I told my players at half time if we don't score 3-0 then if 2-1 we would be in trouble and it happened.

"We knew the opponents were hard. They brought on Gestede and went direct and made problems and when it was 2-1 we knew it was going to be difficult.

We tried our best, the boys are trying their best. They dealt well with many set piece situations. We did lots of things well, we conceded the goal, a bit frustrating, but more frustrating was that we did not score three, four or five."

Is FA Cup priority now? "In this moment it is not the priority. The priority is to play a difficult match against Watford in the Premier League. When Southampton comes it will be the priority."

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce: "It's a hard job up front. There's an expectation on you and with the transfer fee, which was not his fault, the burden that comes on you can become difficult. You never worry because you see him in training and know what he's got. Let's hope it gives him some confidence."

Shrewsbury boss Sam Ricketts: "I'm delighted for the players, for the club, for the supporters.

"I said to the players - if someone's going to step up to the mark with a 25-yard shot, who's it going to be? Aaron Pierre delivered.

"Football's all about entertainment, enjoyment - the FA Cup is special - and now we get the chance to play Liverpool."

Reading have now progressed from 10 of their last 11 FA Cup ties against sides from a lower division, only failing in the third round in 2011-12 against Stevenage.

Matty Longstaff is a talented boy but it's all about the touch. The composure to do it and the touch, just wow.

I was pleased that Steve Bruce put out a strong side. They've got Oxford in the next round now so it gives them a good opportunity to go on a cup run and excite the Newcastle faithful.

Newcastle ‘keeper Karl Darlow became the second goalkeeper this season to register an assist in the FA Cup, joining Rob Tolfrey of Kingstonian, who did so against Macclesfield in round one.
