    Jermaine Jenas
Ex-Tottenham and Newcastle midfielder on BBC One

Injuries have blighted Erik Lamela's time at Spurs but he's got talent, he's got raw talent.

He needs to add goals consistently, assists consistently, but there's definitely a top player in there.

    Shrewsbury 0-0 Bristol City

No sign of a breakthrough at Shrewsbury in a game that has penalties written all over it*.

*Usually when I write that sentence someone goes and scores a goal. Fingers crossed the pattern continues...

  4. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 21:00 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2020

    Newcastle 3-0 Rochdale

Excellent footwork from Sean Longstaff to nutmeg a defender inside the area, he goes down but his appeals are waved away.

Newcastle send on Tom Allan for a debut as Steve Bruce rests a few.

  5. Postpublished at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2020

    Sherwsbury 0-0 Bristol City

A gilt edged chance missed by Famara Diedhiou as he is picked out unmarked on the edge of the box but scuffs his first-time shot wide. Bristol City missing those sort of chances will be giving Shrewsbury hope of an upset.

Should have taken note of Steve Bruce's master plan to make waves for Newcastle and win our first silverware since 1969. Just realised I'm on a cruise ship on the day of the FA Cup Final.

    Tottenham 2-0 Middlesbrough

They were two goals that Middlesbrough didn't have to concede. It was of their own making. It was poor mistakes, poor defending for the second goal, and I think that's the main thing Jonathan Woodgate will be disappointed about because, since then, they've steadied the ship.

  8. goal

GOAL - Coventry 2-0 Bristol Roverspublished at 20:55 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2020

    Josh Pask (50 mins)

Whooooshhh! Birmingham are going to play away from home inside their own stadium, it looks that way anyway.

Cov right-back Josh Pask runs on to a pass to smash home a second.

Rochdale have started the half well, a lovely, patient flowing move ends with Stephen Dooley heading over the top.

It's better from Middlesbrough. They're trying to play some football and are giving a good account of themselves.

  15. Postpublished at 20:50 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2020

    Tottenham 2-0 Middlesbrough

Ashley Fletcher plants a header wide from a free kick. Set pieces may be Middlesbrough's best hope of clawing their way back into this so they need to do better with them.

KeithMc: Don't know about JoeLinton but JoeLongthorne would probably have more chance of bagging a goal for the barcodes.

Ben Kramer: Last chance for Joelinton to do something. If he doesn’t get a goal tonight he needs to be dropped or at the very very least start being played on the wing. Not a number 9 in any sense, especially for NUFC.
