    Martin Keown
Former Arsenal defender on BBC One

It was a glorious opportunity. Howson's feet were magnificent there. He just tip-toed his way through the Spurs defence.

It came out to the edge of the box and the quality that Howson shows, the presence of mind to make the pass. Yes, McNair was offside, but you'd expect him to hit the target from there.

Dave Crawford: Martin Keown is spot on. England can't even play out, what chance do the likes of Boro and Rochdale have?

I'm obsessed with watching this goal. In the long run, this style of play will pay off for Rochdale, or will it? I can't decide.

Sometimes you need to get rid. Or maybe I'm just a dinosaur.

Oh you've got to make these chances count!

Paddy McNair's corner is cleared to Jonny Howson but the midfielder picks his way though the Tottenham defence before finding McNair. The Middlesbrough defender has the goal at his mercy but lashes well over.

Wait, the linesman's flag is up. McNair's blushes are spared.

Dylan Lingham: Just need Gazzaniga to score now for an Argentinian hat-trick.

Dan Tinkler: Lo Celso and Lamela! All about the Argentinians. If only we still had one in the dugout.

Spurs are running riot here. They probably didn't want another game but actually, it's good for their confidence. They've been so much better than the opposition.

Lovely flick over his head by Christian Eriksen, who is then bought down by Lewis Wing as the Spurs midfielder breaks from midfield. Tottenham have a free kick 25 yards from goal. Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Giovani Lo Celso all fancy it but it is Eriksen who strikes but his low effort is comfortably saved.

Pretty much what you’d expect really from a mid table League One side against Championship squad players. Plenty of endeavour. Boye’s toe poke the only shot on target. Biggest cheer for returning Charlie Adam as the visiting sub stretched his legs

  9. Postpublished at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2020

    Tottenham 2-0 Middlesbrough

Japhet Tanganga gallops down the right flank to run onto a ball into the box but sends his first-time strike just wide of the far post.

There's so much space for Tottenham players to attack. The Middlesbrough defence is all over the place now.

Re 19:17 - Displays a certain level of arrogance to consider cup competitions beneath you. In 2012 the League Cup was the only trophy Liverpool won and I remember their fans considering it a big deal at the time.

Giovani lo Celso is picking up some good positions for Spurs. I like the way he comes in off the right. He links the play well, and has got good imagination.

Richard Byrne, good attendance at St James' tonight. The FA Cup will always matter. I am 41 and I still love it. It is only an anachronism to fans who have sold their souls to UEFA in pursuit of a shot at playing a few games abroad in the Camp Nou and Bernabeu.

Should be 1-0 to Bristol City as Jack Hunt plays in Famara Diedhiou but the forward fires well over when one-on-one.
