Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is satisfied with the narrow win over St Mirren as it keeps his side two points behind Celtic with a game in hand.

"I thought defensively we were excellent," he tells Rangers TV. "I understand that supporters and even some of my players expect us to win more comfortably and I'm probably a bit frustrated that we didn't get a second or third goal, but I'm delighted.

"It is a win, it is a clean sheet, it moves us closer to where we want to be and, over the course of season, if we managed to go on and make it successful, every game's not going to be perfect.

"It is about winning and finding a way and we've done that."

Hamilton manager Brian Rice was disappointed to leave Easter Road empty handed after the visitors enjoyed the best of the first half and took the lead.

Speaking to BBC Scotland, he said: "I'm disappointed but more so for my players, for what they put in to the game. The way they started the game and played in the first half, I felt the game could have been out of reach at half time for Hibs.

"There were opportunities there for us to score more and when you come to tough places like Easter Road you have to try and take your chances and we didn't. The difference is that in the second half Hibs created a couple of chances and took them and we never took ours."

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright tells BBC Radio Scotland although his side should have handled the goal better, he believes his side should have had a penalty.

"That goal should have been easily snuffed out and defended. It is one mistake we haven’t been making in recent games, but a mistake that led to their goal.

"But the big decision went against us with the penalty kick – it’s a definite penalty. Michael O’Halloran takes a touch and the goalkeeper makes no effort to get the ball and just collides into him.

"How the referee doesn’t see it is beyond me. That decision can’t be defended.”

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Radio Scotland his team needs fresh faces before the January window shuts after a punishing loss to Motherwell.

"We’ve been over-reliant on Sam Cosgrove and when he’s not at his best – as he’s not been the last couple of games – it’s up to others to contribute," he says.

"We are looking to make the necessary changes in the last week or so of this window, and hopefully we can make those changes, because the team needs it.

"The result wasn’t what we wanted. We were the better team, had good opportunities to score, but when you defend the goal as poorly as we did, you deserve to get punished. We still had enough time to get ourselves back into it. We nullified a good side for long periods, I was just looking for more confidence and quality in that final bit. We had umpteen deliveries into their box."

Kilmarnock manager Alex Dyer: "I thought we did well at times, but mistakes cost us the game. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the way we performed.

"Since we've come back after the break the boys have been good and it's showed so far in the way we've trained and played today. Hopefully we can push on and pick up points against the teams around us."

Ross County co-manager Steven Ferguson tells BBC Scotland: "We're really happy with the reaction, but we're disappointed to only take one point and I think our efforts deserved all three.

"It's a very small step but it's a step in the right direction.

"The big games just keep coming and there's no hiding from it. If we can play like we did tonight for the rest of the season then we'll give ourselves a chance of staying in this league."

Hibernian manager Jack Ross believes his team's second half performance probably edged it for his side in terms of deserving all three points.

Speaking to BBC Scotland, he said: "I suppose if you look at that sensibly then you might say a draw would be a fair result. As poor as we were first half, I thought we were good in the second half. It was a far different performance and on balance of the chances created over the course of the game I'd say we deserved to win it."

Ross opted to make two substitutes at half time and then a third just nine minutes in to the second half to change his team's shape and tactics, bringing on new arrival Stephane Omeonga, Joe Newell and Daryl Horgan.

"I felt as if the two that we brought on at half time gave us a better balance in the middle of the pitch," said the Hibs boss. "That was the aim and they did. And then we just changed our shape a bit as well. It was a big gamble because at the end of the game we had David Gray, who hasn't played a lot of football, Adam Jackon, who hasn't played a lot and Paul Hanlon, who was struggling with his hamstring. So we were hanging on for dear life in fitness terms. I asked them to show character in the second half and they did that in abundance."

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson reckons tonight's impressive win at Aberdeen was "one of the best away performances in my time at the club".

He tells BBC Radio Scotland: "Some of the performances were fantastic. Some of our young players really came of age."

On Christopher Long's first-half injury, Robinson says the striker will be assessed tonight and tomorrow but is clearly a doubt for Saturday's visit of Hibernian.

And he doesn't expect to be dipping into the transfer market for the remainder of January.

"We’ve got no more money to play with," the Northern Irishman added. "We were able to bring Mikael Ndjoli in instead of Devante Cole.

"I have to make sure we don't block any of the young boys' pathways. Only boys I think are better than our young players will be people I try and bring to the club."

Hearts manager Daniel Stendel tries to remain positive despite Hearts only picking up a point in Dingwall. It means seven of the last nine games between these two have ended all square.

"I'm a little bit disappointed because I think we had chances to win the three points," the German tells BBC Sportsound. "We have so much more potential than we played. One point is no defeat, unbeaten in 2020, and we go on our way.

"It's not an easy situation. We know that we have enough games, but we have to start to win games. We need wins."

Livingston head coach Gary Holt was impressed with Rangers loanee Robby McCrorie on his debut for the club - the 21-year-old joined after his loan with Queen of the South was terminated this week.

Holt tells BBC Radio Scotland: "Robby for his debut and being a young lad coming in, was exceptional. His handling was perfect – he knew when to come and stay and helped the boys in front of him. He made crucial saves and didn’t look flustered.

"St Johnstone are a very good side, well-organised, experienced and can cause problems on the break. We had to be patient. Zander Clark did brilliantly for them with some good saves.

“Scott Pittman has been hard on himself – he’s missed a couple of chances, but he’s got to be in there. He tries to help out, and I’ve said that he’s the attacking threat in the final third, so to try and play higher. He’s been playing well for us, I’m delighted he got a break with a great finish."

"It was a great performance at a difficult venue," says Celtic boss Neil Lennon. "We scored three good goals and I thought we could have scored more.

"The link up play between Edouard and Griffiths was really good - it's not often teams come here and create that number of chances.

"Griffiths has had a long time out of the game but I know what he can do. He's such a clever player."

On the incident where Griffiths appeared to throw some strapping into the crowd, Lennon is puzzled by the behaviour of some in the home crowd.

"He was taking some serious abuse and he didn't react in a malicious way at all," says the manager. "He's not the perpetrator - the abuse was totally uncalled for."

Jeremie Frimpong was carried off on a stretcher but Lennon is hopeful it won't lead to a long absence for the teenage full-back.

"It looks like it's not as bad as we first feared," he explains. "He may or may not be available for the weekend."

Neil Lennon will be a very happy manager with the performance and everything in amongst the goals. Lots of positives for Celtic to take from this. Edouard and Griffiths linked up very well.

Lots of stoppage time at Ibrox too as rusty Rangers stay two points behind leaders Celtic but struggled to a win over a resolute St Mirren.

Jermain Defoe fired home from 12 yards after 34 minutes on one of the few occasions his side found the target.

St Mirren suffered a blow when captain Kyle Magennis was taken off on a stretcher after seven minutes.

But they stuck to their task despite a lack of possession and forced Rangers to survive some late pressure.

After nearly nine minutes of injury time after that unfortunate incident with Jeremie Frimpong, the full-time whistle sounds at Rugby Park.

A comfortable win for the champions, who really should have scored a few more.

Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and Christopher Jullien were the men on target for the visitors.

Livingston make it four home Scottish Premiership wins in a row without conceding after a hard-fought win over St Johnstone.

Scott Pittman scored the only goal of the game, knocking a low Jack McMillan cross home from close-range in the second-half.

The hosts also hit the post after a Steve Lawson free-kick struck the post, curling beautifully past the wall.

The visitors piled on late pressure, but Rangers loanee Robby McCrorie earned a clean sheet on his debut.

The win keeps Livingston in fifth and puts an end to St Johnstone's five-game unbeaten run.
