So, how did the Scottish Premiership cliffhanger end in 2019?

Rangers went into the New Year with a spring in their step after a thoroughly deserved 2-1 win at Celtic Park. A first win at the home of their biggest rivals since 2010 leaves Steven Gerrard's side two points behind the champions, but with a game in hand.

Hearts showed signs of life in a spirited 1-1 draw at home to Aberdeen but fell further adrift after Hamilton hit back to shock Motherwell.

Livingston edged up to fifth with a third comfortable home win on the bounce and St Johnstone extended their unbeaten run to five games.

At last! The Scottish Premiership is back after a winter hiatus, with all 12 teams in action this evening.

Top flight players were able to shake off some rust in the Scottish Cup at the weekend but the league's various sub-plots are in sharp focus again, so teams need to hit the ground running.

Celtic and Rangers resume their tussle at the top, Hearts need a big improvement in the second half of the season if they are to avoid the drop, while a mere seven points separate fifth place from 11th.
