With that in mind, not sure how Napoli boss Gennaro Gattuso's quotes have gone down in the city.

"Messi is the greatest and an example for everyone. He never says anything inappropriate. He does things that only exist on the Playstation, unthinkable things.

"But I saw Maradona on VHS, or DVD. I never saw him up close, at a stadium. I know the champion he was and I know I missed something wonderful.

"I regret it. Today I see Messi doing things that Maradona was doing."

But the ex-Rangers midfielder added: "We have to be careful with their whole team, because it's not just Messi.

"I want a Napoli side that are not afraid. I want to see a team that knows how to battle... You need to stand up to Barcelona -- you can't worry.

"I want to see a lively team that plays with joy until the end. Can Napoli win the Champions League? Never say never."

  3. 'For us Neapolitans Maradona is holy'published at 19:15 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2020

    Napoli v Barcelona (20:00 GMT)

There have been comparisons between Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi in the build-up to this one...

Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne said: "Messi for me is the strongest player in the world but I don't want to compare him to Maradona because for us Neapolitans Maradona is everything and I don't make comparisons because for us Neapolitans Maradona is holy. But now Messi in my opinion is the strongest player in the world."

There was the centre forward debate. As an audition against Tottenham Olivier Giroud was absolutely superb, so hard to leave out. Tammy Abraham does have that little bit more pace to trouble Bayern though, it's a big call from Frank Lampard.

Also tonight we've got the Diego Maradona derby - Napoli v Barcelona.

Maradona - the second best Argentine to ever play for Barcelona - was at the Nou Camp for two seasons before spending the peak of his career with Napoli, where he inspired them to their only two Serie A titles.

They have actually met once since then, in the 2013 Uefa Super Cup with Bayern Munich winning on penalties.

That one was a complete reversal with Bayern scoring a late equaliser to deny Chelsea victory in the 90 minutes.

Romelu Lukaku's saved penalty proved costly in the shootout and he never played for Chelsea again.

  14. The Drogba final?published at 18:35 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2020

Chelsea v Bayern Munich (20:00 GMT)

For those of you who don't remember it, it should probably be known as the Didier Drogba final.

The Chelsea legend scored an 88th-minute equaliser with a bullet header after Thomas Muller had given Bayern a late lead.

He then conceded a penalty in extra time, which Petr Cech saved from Arjen Robben, before scoring the winning penalty in the shootout himself.

That was his last kick for the club before leaving for Shanghai Shenhua, although he would return to the Blues for one more season.

Sometimes you have to think hard to work out when teams last played each other in the Champions League.
