    England

England captain David Beckham to BBC Sport: "It feels better than it did four years ago! It's unbelievable.

"It's been a long four years; it's been up and down but this tops it all off. It was [terrifying taking the penalty] because of their antics - the keeper telling me to put it somewhere and Diego Simeone trying to shake my hand. But you know, that's the way they play.

"We did really well, we battled really hard and it's a team game so it's not just about my penalty. The team were brilliant for the whole 92 minutes."

    FT: Argentina 0-1 England

    Alan Hansen
    Former Scotland and Liverpool defender

England were the better team. They had the better players and were just better in virtually every department. They should have won by two or three goals. It was one of the best performances. I think it was better than beating Germany 5-1 because they were playing against one of the best teams in the world and made them look distincitively ordinary.

ENGLAND HAVE DONE IT!! They have beaten Argentina in the World Cup for the first time since 1966.

The victory moves the Three Lions up to second place in the 'Group of Death.' Those painful defeats in 1986 and 1998 are but a mere memory now.

Surely we'll go all the way now? It's coming home.

    Argentina 0-1 England

Wayne Bridge has been performing consistently well for Southampton recently. I can see him being tempted by a move to a bigger club.

Perhaps Chelsea? Could build a decent partnership with young John Terry at the back. Let's see how he gets on here.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 80 mins

Smart decision from Sven as he brings on Wayne Bridge to sure up the midfield for the last 10 minutes.

It's Michael Owen who makes way. He's such a special talent isn't he? Argentina will be happy to see the back of him!

Marcelo Bielsa is crouched down on the edge of his dugout. England are preparing to bring on Wayne Bridge by the looks of it.

Bielsa hasn't even noticed I don't think. He's not bothered about spying on the other team - he's just trying to figure out what his own team can do here.
