Looks like Emile Heskey is limping a little up front. Is he going to be the man who goes off?

Diego Placente is being run ragged by England at the back! This time it's David Beckham who gets around him at the near post but he can only squeeze the shot wide.

    What a chance!

Official attendance is 35,927, the stadium announcer says.

That means some unsold tickets have not been sent back. Disappointing. They had a Fifa meeting about it this morning as it's been a concern throughout the tournament so far.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 49 mins

    Argentina 0-1 England

Oh and a yellow for Emile Heskey now. He's timewasting by kicking the ball away. Bit early for that from the Liverpool man!

  8. CLOSE!published at 49 mins

    Argentina 0-1 England

    Any of them!!!

It's like pinball in the Argentina box as first Michael Owen almost gets on the end of it at the near post.

It falls to Emile Heskey, who has a shot blocked, before Paul Scholes picks it up on the edge of the box and smashes a volley!

The keeper does enough to palm it away. Blimey! England are really on top!

  9. Postpublished at 48 mins

it could have been 2-0 England! Will Owen come to regret that miss?

  10. CLOSE!published at 48 mins

    Argentina 0-1 England

Ooooh Michael Owen is in and he should score!

It's a long punt down the pitch from David Seaman which Emile Heskey gets a slight touch on.

Owen gathers it in with his back to goal, turns sharply, beats Diego Placente but fires wide of the far post from close range.

The angle was tight but you'd put your money on him scoring...

Straight into the action from Pablo Aimar. He has an early shot at David Seaman but it's comfortable.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 46 mins

Interesting move by Argentina. Their captain Juan Sebastian Veron is off following the break. On comes Valencia forward Pablo Aimar.

It's absolutely essential that in the next 15 minutes, England go back out with the same energy and same work ethic. They can't allow Argentina into the game as they allowed Sweden to.

We have said it before - Michael Owen is a big game player. He hit the post earlier on. There's definitely contact for the penalty.

It's been fantastic. We are getting right among it. Argentina are not passing it around and we are winning those second balls. Emile Heskey has come back a few times and won possession so we can get it going again. The boys have started so well and I'm really quite confident now.

England have been solid, resolute, compact. They have worked together as two units, got their foot in quickly, closed down quickly and more importantly, they have attacked. They have kept the ball and I thought Emile Heskey set the tone right away when he won a couple of headers. Michael Owen has been prominent, Nicky Butt has been absolutely magnificent and they just have to keep it going.
