They build pressure down the right before a cross loops over to Gonzalez on the far side.

He's just inside the area and has a pop on the volley. He catches it so sweetly but there's too much height on it and it whizzes over the bar. David Seaman wasn't getting there...

Adam Salter: This was the match that got me into football. I knew nothing of the history between England and Argentina (Hand of God, France 98). But they had the match on when I turned up at school one morning, and even I could sense this was a special match.

Ashley Cole just needs to be a little bit careful now. That's the second time he's come flying in on Ariel Ortega. This time he's shown a yellow card for it.

Ashley Cole tries to cut inside of Mauricio Pochettino but is shoved off it.

Trevor Sinclair then beats Juan Sebastian Veron on the left, gets his heels clipped, before Pochettino comes crashing in.

It's come to life now! Trevor Sinclair beats two defenders on the left and wins a throw-in.

Nice spell this from England.

Phew! David Seaman gets his hands on the ball as Gabriel Batistuta is stretching when he heads it in the six-yard box.

It's straight at the England keeper but it was a nice, floated ball in from Kily Gonzalez. Batistuta got away from Sol Campbell but couldn't get the direction on it.

Mauricio Pochettino was caught out of position then too. He doesn't seem like a good reader of the game.

What a pass that was from Nicky Butt! Michael Owen actually nutmegged Walter Samuel too!

So unlucky.

Michael Owen has done it before against Argentina and I thought he was going to do it again!

Nicky Butt picks up a loose ball in midfield and threads it through to Owen. The Liverpool man uses his pace to get away, steps to his right and drills it back across goal.

It ends up clipping the far post and bouncing back into the six-yard area before it's frantically cleared for a corner. WHAT a chance!!

Emile Heskey does well to track back and win the ball. Diego Simeone goes down dramatically and gets the free-kick.

England have the ball at their feet again shortly after but Nicky Butt catches Javier Zanetti.

Marco Bielsa has a little walk along the touchline. The Celta Vigo keeper Pablo Cavallero looks fine to carry on after that knock with Rio Ferdinand.

Oh no, this is a blow to Sven Goran Eriksson. Owen Hargreaves is going to have to come off.

On comes Trevor Sinclair. The West Ham midfielder wasn't even named in the World Cup squad before Danny Murphy had to drop out! Now he's coming on to play against Argentina. Crazy. Is he the answer to England's left midfield problem?

Now it's Diego Simeone who fouls Paul Scholes.

David Beckham will take a third free-kick... And doesn't beat the first man again. He immediately wins it back but his curling shot is blocked.

Mauricio Pochettino then spreads it around the back.

Ariel Ortega is causing Ashley Cole a few heachaches early on. He gets in behind again and the Arsenal defender has to concede a corner.

Owen Hargreaves is back on but he's jogging about gingerly.
