Smith is not a Premier League manager. We have players who are clueless and a waste of money. A big clear out is needed and get youngsters who want to wear the shirt and play for the team we've carried has beens long enough time to get rid

When you look at what Villa are putting on the pitch up front you have to wonder about Smith's decision to loan out Scott Hogan. Poor Championship manager, out of his depth in Premier League.

  6. 'I thought we matched them'published at 14:59 British Summer Time 27 June 2020

    Aston Villa 0-1 Wolves

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith talking to BT Sport: "We are disappointed, it was a nothing game. I thought it was an average game with defence on top, the sort you expect to finish 0-0. It was the sort of games you'd expect having played four games in 11 days. I thought we more than matched a top six team and we were unlucky to lose the game.

"There's no tougher games than Wolves, we've seen them doing it on all fronts this season - in the league and in Europe. Going back, the scheduling four games in 11 days, you are always going to get injuries, errors and fatigue because of that. I thought it was an average game because of that. We're the only team to do four days in 11 days, so thank you very much for that."

On Wolves: "It's tough, not many teams have got much out of Wolves this season - you're asking a lot out of the front three against their back five. We certainly needed more quality in the final third, that's for sure. There was no real clear cut chances apart from Orjan Nyland throwing into the ground and Diogo Jota putting it over the bar."

On playing two up front going forward: "We've planned for the games, we are coming up with plans for each game. Since the restart each game has gone how I expected it to, in terms of how it played out, we should certainly have more points out of these four games because we haven't been bad in them. It's disappointing, it was an opportunity today and unfortunately they've scored."

Terry for Villa manager?published at 14:56 British Summer Time 27 June 2020

As a Villa fan part of me thinks it would be better for Villa to go down. Need to rebuild without Grealish who deserves his chance at a big club. Time for Terry to step up next season to manager?

  8. 'Today was about fatigue'published at 14:55 British Summer Time 27 June 2020

    Aston Villa 0-1 Wolves

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, speaking to BBC: "Very fine margins. We were the better team before the break, not many teams have created chances against us. We more than watched a top six team today but they managed to get a goal from the edge of the box out of nothing and we didn't convert the chances we had.

"It was OK but tough. There are not many teams who have got change out of Wolves. We started the game well, put good balls in from set pieces but our headers were probably not as good as they should have been. I thought today was about fatigue, crazy to play four games in 11 day and you will get fatigued doing that.

"Right from the start it is fine margins. I think we look a sound team, we are hard to beat and I am sure the teams we play will say that too but we just probably need a bit of quality in the final third.

"We need the break otherwise we will have a big injury list. The fixture list is crazy. Why this game couldn't have been tomorrow or Monday I don't know, to make it a bit more of a spectacle because it is hard without fans but even header when players are fatigued."

  9. 'Leander deserves his moment'published at 14:50 British Summer Time 27 June 2020

    Aston Villa 0-1 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to BBC: "Happy with the hard work of the players. But we did not start well. We were not able to have our possession. We won a lot of second balls which was important in this game. The aim of the second half after we scored was to hold on and stay compact but after that we did not create many chances.

"I'm very happy for Leander Dendoncker, he gives so much to us and he truly deserves this moment.

On lack of fans: "Nobody will get used to it, never. We have something irreplaceable, the fans. We are happy to have football back but we are hoping and praying it goes back to what we had.

On moving into fifth: "What's in front of us will be very tough but it's a welcome week to recover. We will prepare ourselves to compete and see what happens."

  11. 'We performed well'published at 14:43 British Summer Time 27 June 2020

    Aston Villa 0-1 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves boss Nuno Espírito Santo, speaking to BT Sport: "I think we performed well in terms of our organisation and in terms of staying in the game. We approached the game really well. we didn't settle down early on but once we had a couple of opportunities we started to control the game and create more chances.

"Honestly everyone knows in football you can plan but anything can change. We had an idea, today was about controlling the game, about getting tough and opening them to get possession in the wide areas.

"I am very happy for Leander, he is a hard worker. It is time now to recover and prepare because next week we have three games in one week and it will be tough."

    Aston Villa 0-1 Wolves

    Wolves

More from Wolves midfielder and matchwinner Leander Dendoncker speaking to BT Sport: "I don't think we gave much away and we haven't in the last three games and that's important. A lot of people forget we don't give a way of lot of goals."

On his goal: "Everyone knows that Adama Traore can do that down the sides and now through the middle and Jonny gave a good assist to me and I just shot."

  14. 'It is nice to dream'published at 14:36 British Summer Time 27 June 2020

    Aston Villa 0-1 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves goalscorer Leander Dendoncker, speaking to BT Sport: "Very good. We played a good game today and controlled for most of the game. The last few minutes were quite hard because they were losing and trying to attack and score but we kept it tight.

"It is nice to dream. Everyone dreams but we also have to be realistic. We have some tough games coming but up but it is good, we took nine points from nine. We just have to do our best game by game."
