There's laid back and then there's basically horizontal. The players are certainly taking their time to come out onto the pitch, some seem pretty content with having a bit of a natter in the tunnel.

There's a massive downpour where I am writing from in Salford at the moment but it is a very different picture in Birmingham where the sun is shining brightly as the players slowly start making their way onto the pitch.

  13. 'I've been ok with the performances'published at 12:14 British Summer Time 27 June 2020

Aston Villa v Wolves (12:30 BST)

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith on BT Sport: "The players are holding up, no thanks to the fixtures - four fixtures in 11 days, we’re the only team to do that. It’s been tough but I suppose it's because we've that game in hand. I did think it was bit strange to not play tomorrow, I’ve been ok with performances, we’re in a better place defensively and we’ve just not got the wins our performances probably deserve.

On the changes with John McGinn rested: "John [McGinn] has started the three games and he’s still trying to find his fitness and the games have helped him. He’s not at his best yet but he’s getting there. We’re treating him the best we can.

On two strikers: "The biggest reason is the fact they play three or five at the back so it gives you a bit more opportunity to play two up front. If you do that against four the full backs can get out a bit."

Aston Villa v Wolves (12:30 BST)

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has dismissed fears his side could lose their stars if they fail to reach the Champions League.

"I don't think that's the reason they are here," he said.

"The reason is they enjoy working together so we don't have to achieve anything to retain them. At no point am I thinking about it.

""We don't think about that (the top four). There's no race for anything, the race is to compete, improve and make good games."

Liverpool have condemned the behaviour of some fans who gathered in the city to celebrate the Premier League title win as "wholly unacceptable".

Flares were lit as thousands turned up at Pier Head waterfront despite restrictions on gatherings. Firefighters extinguished a small fire at the landmark Liver Building.

Liverpool issued a joint statement with the city council and Merseyside Police, saying: "Our city is still in a public health crisis and this behaviour is wholly unacceptable."

Villa fan here, eyeing up that Liverpool fixture as a chance for a surprise - with the league won, a party fixture v Man City to take up their energy and emotion, LFC may then struggle to get motivated v us without fans to play in front of. You can hope. Far better than playing them with everything on the line.
