Millwall finally got themselves up and running with a win after the coronavirus restart when they beat rivals Charlton at the Valley last Friday.

Not only was it a confidence booster after two draws and a narrow loss since the resumption, not only did it keep the Lions in the hunt for the play-offs, but it also gave Gary Rowett's side the rarity of some rest time.

"This is a pure luxury having two days to prepare," Rowett told BBC Radio London.

"It's almost worth playing a day early to get a few days off.

"The Charlton win gave us a lift and the players are really up after it, but Middlesbrough will be a really tough game."

As the late, great Kenneth Wolstenholme used to say on Gazzetta Football Italia...

While our initial focus will be on matters at the Den, it's just the first of a generous helping of Championship football for your midweek delectation.

Once these two have finished duelling in south east London, the following will kick in.

    • West Brom v Derby (17:00 BST)
    • Birmingham v Swansea (18:00 BST)
    • Bristol City v Hull City (18:00 BST)

If there was ever a sign that the world has been turned upside down over the past few months, then it's Millwall playing Middlesbrough, in early July, at 3pm, on a Wednesday afternoon.

Not since the dark days of the 'three day week' in the 1970s (ask your dad/grandad) have we had such random kick-off times.

Both teams still have something to play for, even if the normally imposing Den atmosphere will be tempered by a lack of crowd.

For the Lions, the possibility of a play-off spot remains; for Boro it's the raw and desperate need to stay in the division.
