No real harm comes for Exeter from Cobblers' latest corner.

But Keith Curle's men have been a huge threat in the air all night.

Set-pieces have worked a charm for Northampton in this game so far. They've forced another corner, after launching the ball in to the box from a deep free-kick.

  3. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Exeter 0-2 Northampton

Exeter get the game going again, although they had to take kick-off twice as the referee Michael Salisbury spotted some encroachment from Cobblers players in to the wrong half.

The players are back out for the second half at Wembley. Are we in for a dramatic Exeter comeback or will Northampton see out the win and reach League One?

If you've just joined us, in front of a crowd-less Wembley, Ryan Watson opened the scoring early on for Northampton - his shot taking a slight deflection on its way in from the edge of the box - before Callum Morton's instinctive flick doubled the lead.

Cobblers have been well on top. Exeter have it all to do in the second half.

I feel really privileged to be at what we think is the first-ever behind-closed-doors competitive game at Wembley - a moment of history.

You just want to take everything in as much as possible, because hopefully we won't have to go through this again after this summer.

But when the players go quiet all you can hear is the quiet hum of the Wembley generators - it's quite sad really for what should've been such a great occasion.

Just as he was during their semi-final win against Colchester United, Plymouth Argyle boss Ryan Lowe is again in among the Exeter City fans at Wembley.

Can the former Bury manager again prove to be a lucky charm for Grecians in the second half?

There's the half-time whistle and Northampton are on course for promotion to League One as it stands.

They've had a brilliant half, in front of 90,000 empty Wembley seats.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 45+4 mins

    Exeter 0-2 Northampton

Jon Maxted has just kept Exeter City in this League Two play-off final, with two super saves from headers in the space of 60 seconds - first from Vadaine Oliver at point-blank range and then from Charlie Goode's strong header too. Excellent goalkeeping.

    Exeter 0-2 Northampton

As we enter four minutes of added time, Exeter's best chance of the half arrives, as Ryan Bowman beats the offside trap (although he looked off to me, albeit not from a straight angle) and he races through on goal but loses his footing at the crucial moment, 10 yards out.

    Exeter 0-2 Northampton

Sorry to remind Exeter fans, but they have lost on their past two appearances in this play-off final in 2017 and 2018.

A third final defeat from three, in the space of four seasons, would be heartbreaking for the Grecians. It's on the cards at the moment.

  13. Postpublished at 41 mins

    Exeter 0-2 Northampton

As we approach half-time, we've seen six efforts on target from Northampton but none from the Devon side.

    Exeter 0-2 Northampton

Northampton go close to a third goal twice in quick succession, with Scott Wharton seeing two headers saved by Jon Maxted. It's one-way traffic to be brutally honest.

So Northampton, who were two-goals down to Cheltenham after their semi-final first leg, now have a 2-0 lead in the first half of the play-off final. What a rapid change in fortunes for Keith Curle's men.

They were socially distanced as they walked out onto the Wembley pitch and may even have to keep apart during any potential trophy lift - but there was no separating the Northampton players during that celebration.

And who can really blame them?

You'd have to be pretty soulless to deny the Cobblers players a team huddle to celebrate what might be the most important goal of their season.

GOAL: Exeter 0-2 Northamptonpublished at 31 mins

    Callum Morton

Northampton double their lead and they're suddenly in dreamland! It's 2-0 after just over half an hour.

On-loan West Brom forward Callum Morton - a hero in the semi-final second leg with two second-half goals - flicks it in at the far past after a long ball from the right was headed across goal by Scott Wharton and then flicked on by Jordan Turnbull. It was a well-worked set-piece. It's an instinctive finish. It's looking VERY good for Northampton.

  20. SUBSTITUTION (Northampton)published at 31 mins

    Exeter 0-1 Northampton

It looks like Nicky Adams has a muscle problem and is going to have to come off. What a shame for him. He's had a superb season, contributing 17 assists for Northampton.

    Mark Marshall comes on.
