Now it's time for the national anthem, with British soprano Faryl Smith's rendition having been pre-recorded. Her performance is being shown on Wembley's big screens.

Here come the players, out in to the near-silent, near-empty cauldron of Wembley.

Northampton are out first, with the two teams walking down the tunnel separately as part of the safety procedures.

Tim: As a Cobblers fan - I had to miss the last play-off final in 2013. I was living in East London and working in Newbury. A cruel sat-nav took me past the pubs with the fans at Baker Street but after we were 3-0 down at half-time... probably for the best! Up the Cobblers!

Daniel Morris: 2005 FA Cup final v Man United. As an Arsenal fan who has been lucky enough to go to every final since 1987, I had to miss this for a wedding...in Manchester, with the groom's family all United fans. We won on pens and I celebrated. A lot. Didn't go down too well.

  7. Fish and chips & a 'mental mastermind'published at 19:15 British Summer Time 29 June 2020

    Exeter v Northampton (19:30 BST)

Unless you play for England or one of the top clubs in the country, there's nothing particularly normal about appearing at Wembley Stadium. A fully locked down Wembley Stadium, even less so.

During the past seven days, however, Exeter boss Matt Taylor and Northampton manager Keith Curle have been doing all they can to keep their players calm ahead of tonight's showpiece in the capital.

From mental masterclasses to fish and chip suppers, here's how the two gaffers have been going about their work...

I spoke to Northampton fan Don outside Wembley.

He's travelled alone from nearby Ealing so he can sit outside Wembley and listen to BBC radio coverage of the game.

Don's been a Cobblers fan since 1963 - he came to the 1996-97 fourth-tier final, when Northampton beat Swansea 1-0 in stoppage time.

That day a very happy Don took a post-match photo in a particular spot outside the stadium, and he hopes to be able to take a similar one tonight.

  10. Third time lucky for the Grecians?published at 19:09 British Summer Time 29 June 2020

    Exeter v Northampton (19:30 BST)

Tonight's League Two play-off final is Exeter’s third, with both of their previous two appearances coming since 2017.

They suffered defeats in both, though, losing 2-1 to Blackpool in 2016-17 and 3-1 to Coventry in 2017-18.

Will tonight be third-time-lucky for the Grecians?

Bryan Seal: As a lifelong Fulham supporter, I missed the Europa League final due to my son being born. I did however attempt to go by telling the wife " I've seen you give birth once, I've never seen Fulham in a Cup final"

Ben Dunbar: The referee in tonight's League Two play-off final once sent a player off for pulling someone's hair. Given lockdon hair this could be an issue in the game.

Meanwhile, Wayne has been back in touch to say he did indeed have his appendix out despite having no pain whatsoever and that he only found out the score when the surgeon was doing his rounds the next morning. Bonkers.

Like all members of the press I had to have a medical screening before going into Wembley, which included a temperature check and some form-filling.

It all happened in this rather fetching gazebo, with medical staff on hand to go through the procedure.

It's all so different to what everyone's used to but everyone's dealing with it as well as possible.

    Exeter v Northampton (19:30 BST)

Speaking of our BBC local radio colleagues, unfortunately rights restrictions mean we cannot bring you live audio commentary of today's final online, but you can of course listen in to full commentary on BBC Radio Devon or BBC Radio Northampton, if you're in either of the respective local areas.

Both stations' live programmes from north London are now under way. We've got around half an hour until kick-off on the pitch at 19:30 BST.

  16. Cobblers: Comeback kings?published at 18:52 British Summer Time 29 June 2020

    Exeter v Northampton (19:30 BST)

In their dramatic semi-final victory over Cheltenham, Northampton became just the third team in English Football League play-offs history to lose the first leg by two or more goals at home and then progress to the final.

Only Bradford City - in 1995-96 - and Yeovil Town - in 2006-07 - had managed it before.

Marius Granaas Vik: I’ve been following Exeter from Norway for 27 years, and been to all their previous finals at Wembley. Gutted I can’t be there today, but a rare victory in our second home would help a lot. UTC!

William Lee: Turned down a ticket for the 4-1 demolition of the Netherlands during Euro 96 to prepare for my mock French oral GCSE exam the next day. Not even the real exam. A day doesn't pass where I don't regret my decision.

    Exeter v Northampton (19:30 BST)

If the scores are level after 90 minutes tonight, we'll have extra time and then - if needed - penalties, to decide which of these sides will join Swindon Town, Crewe Alexandra and Plymouth Argyle in League One next season.

Off the field, we are set to have Hawkeye's goal-line technology in use this evening.

Wayne: May 25th 1977. Liverpool play Borussia Monchengladbach in the European Cup final. I faked an upset stomach to get out of a French test at school that day. Mum takes me to the doctor's. He says this boy needs his appendix removed.. rushed to the hospital and missed game. Gutted

I feel like we need more details here, Wayne. So did you actually need your appendix out? What happened next?! Tell us more!
