At least Newcastle have tried to change things. I think they'll still push the full-backs on though. They need to ask a few questions of City now.

    Newcastle 0-1 Man City

Raheem Sterling lets the ball run for Kevin de Bruyne but his outside-of-the-foot pass is cut out.

Newcastle are pressing City a bit better in this half.

    Newcastle 0-1 Man City

Man City break quickly through Riyad Mahrez. He has plenty of options but his pass towards David Silva is a little too heavy.

Gabriel Jesus then steps on Allan Saint-Maximin's toe and Newcastle win a free-kick.

  4. Postpublished at 47 mins

    Newcastle 0-1 Man City

Looks like Newcastle have gone to a back four. Fabian Schar has dropped into midfield.

    Alan Shearer
Former Newcastle captain on BBC One

On Newcastle's proposed takeover: Something has to happen - good news or bad news - because Newcastle are in limbo, they can't plan for next season. I think I would like to see it happen. It's been going on for such a long time, they need an answer.

Right, here comes the draw for the semi-finals!

It's live on BBC One if you haven't already got it on. Alan Shearer is the one to blame if we end up with a potential Manchester derby.

We've still not had a home winner in the quarter-finals. It's not looking good for Newcastle here either but there's still another 45 minutes (at least to go).

Reckon they can do it? Hit the thumbs.

  14. 'Feel sorry for Newcastle'published at 19:24 British Summer Time 28 June 2020

    HT: Newcastle 0-1 Man City

    Micah Richards
Former Man City defender on BBC One

It's just incredible by Man City. I feel sorry for Newcastle at times. Newcastle are too deep and they can't get far enough up the pitch to cause them any problems. I feel for Carroll - it's for too easy for Chelsea's two centre-halves. You might look and say Carroll hasn't had a good game but he has actually done alright.

  15. 'Newcastle defending for their lives'published at 19:23 British Summer Time 28 June 2020

    HT: Newcastle 0-1 Man City

    Alan Shearer
Former Newcastle captain on BBC One

I think Newcastle will be delighted it's just one goal down. Kevin De Bruyne seems to be everywhere and they have had to defend for their lives. With better finishing City should be at least two or three goals up.

Newcastle will want to stay in the game as long as possible and at one nil, they are still in it. Every time Newcastle look up, they're absolutely shattered because they have worked so hard but Andy Carroll is not the player to run in behind.

Claudio Bravo might as well bring out a brew back out for the second half if the first was anything to go by.

Surely, Steve Bruce has to change it?

The only negative you can say about Man City is that they have wasted A LOT of chances.

Pep Guardiola did look frustrated at times. He knows they should have this game in the bag already.

  20. Polite applause for the goalpublished at 19:19 British Summer Time 28 June 2020

    HT: Newcastle 0-1 Man City

    Alistair Magowan
BBC Sport at St James' Park

Normally an away goal at St James' Park is greeted by a delayed but distant cheer given that fans are stationed way up high at the Leazes End. But Kevin de Bruyne's goal was, this time, only congratulated by a polite round of applause.

    Strange.
