Laporte is quality in the air but he couldn't quite guide that into the far corner. Unlucky. Man City have really missed him for large parts of the season.

Well, that was a domination from Man City. Newcastle need to change things and pretty sharpish!

  4. CLOSE!published at 45+2 mins

    Newcastle 0-1 Man City

David Silva's corner is headed JUST wide by Aymeric Laporte. Karl Darlow was beaten.

Couldn't have been any closer, that!

Riyad Mahrez takes a free-kick for City on the right but Karl Darlow will gather it in. He goes long for Andy Carroll immediately, and he wins the header.

It's slipped inside to Sean Longstaff by Allan Saint-Maximin but the midfielder's strike from long range is always going wide.

    Worth a go though!

There was about 10 seconds then where Newcastle had the ball. I'm imagining the crowd going "wahay" with every pass but Jamaal Lascelles then pokes it out of play instead of to Federico Fernandes' feet...

Look at the pressure Man City get around the ball. It's like you're caught in a storm! It's like trying to play football in a washing machine. All these players spinning around you...

Newcastle finally get the ball up to Andy Carroll, who sprays a decent pass over to the far side.

It's switched again but Allan Saint-Maximin is offside.

Craig Morgan-Hill: Newcastle have worked so hard defending narrow and compact, great defensive discipline for your centre half to blatantly push Jesus. I'd be furious. What stupidity.

You have to defend deep against City but if you want to get anything out of the game you need to press when needed otherwise there is no threat on the break. Newcastle are backing off and not even making a game out of this. Might as well have not turned up. There is no way you can defend like that for 120 minutes and not concede.

Ouch. As Martin Keown says, "you can't do anything without the ball".

Raheem Sterling has another shot blocked.

Have to say the referee has done brilliantly to pick that penalty up. Newcastle are going to have to really dig in. I wonder if the tactics will have to change?

This was that save from Karl Darlow to block a Raheem Sterling shot earlier.

They certainly deserve it. That man Kevin de Bruyne is absolute class. Just tucks it away and it was never in doubt.

Yep, penalty it is. Kevin de Bruyne to take.

  16. PENALTY - Man Citypublished at 36 mins

Gabriel Jesus goes to ground as Kyle Walker whips a ball in from the right. Was he pushed by Fabian Schar?

It looks like he has! Penalty!

Kyle Walker's cross is chipped away by Jamaal Lascelles but it's just straight back at City.

Riyad Mahrez eventually loses the ball but Allan Saint-Maximin is on his own and Nicolas Otamendi robs it straight back off him.

    This is cruel.

There's as much variety in City's play as there is in a fruit salad but they just can't seem to score.

Kevin de Bruyne's curling ball just skims the head of Gabriel Jesus. Raheem Sterling was creeping in behind too.

Max Power: It’s like a training game for City.

Tony Hawkins: As this is in essence a training match, I reckon Manchester City should move their goal to the hallway line, keeper only allowed in the semi-circle.
