Villa continue to dig in and frustrate Liverpool. Every time the Reds try to get up a head of steam, the visitors stick in a boot, charge them down or harry a mistake. Really impressive stuff.

Three changes for Liverpool and it is the trio left out from the City game coming on. Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum on for Origi, Fabinho and Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Virgil van Dijk drops a clanger before then coming to the rescue. Villa are away after the Dutchman loses the ball on halfway. The visitors make it into the box but before they can get off a shot, across comes the big centre-back to tackle.

Oxlade-Chamberlain delivers a cross into the box that is designed for Mane but is just a fraction too close to Reina, who gathers.

Is Jordan Henderson the man coming on? He has just been picked out by the cameras tying his boots up with purpose.

From the resulting corner, Mings rises highest to head the ball back in as teaser for his team-mates but before they can react a Liverpool boot swipes the ball away.

Only one team asking questions at the moment, and it isn't the champions.

Villa are sensing a moment here. They come again and for a moment have three on two. The ball is fed wide to El Ghazi, who forces Alisson to palm behind.

For a second it looks like Villa are in. Grealish collects the ball and lashes a shot that Alisson palms away. Before we can find out if a follow-up touch is coming, play is halted for a linesman flag for offside against Grealish.

Aston Villa have done really well, but you have to think Liverpool's passing will improve.

Their manager [Jurgen Klopp] is very quiet - it's most unusual. It's a bit like he's accepted they're not quite at it.

Looks like Oxlade-Chamberlain is in a bit of discomfort. He is checking out his left thigh. He'll play on but, like Grealish, it is one to monitor.

Oh, almost something. Alexander-Arnold whips in a cross that flies past Salah's outstretched boot, between a host of players in the box and just ahead of Sadio Mane.

Remember also that Liverpool have the league's only 100% winning home record. They really wouldn't want to wreck that with just two to go.

No changes at the break. No need for Villa. The Liverpool players will be expected to improve, though, or you might see that subs board up pretty sharpish.

Just so you're in the loop, a point here for Villa would not be enough to lift them out of the relegation zone because of Watford's fractionally better goal difference. Definitely a point earned, though.
