Stuart: We may well be champions but this isn't good enough from Liverpool lacking commitment and passion

Afam Udeozo: Villa containing #LFC, external with ease. Are Liverpool going to struggle with motivation in every game until the end of the season?

Robert Leight: You know what sucks the most about not having fans in stadiums? Not being able to give Pepe Reina a proper welcome home. Love the guy.

  2. 'Villa delighted, Liverpool not very good'published at 17:25 British Summer Time 5 July 2020

    Liverpool 0-0 Aston Villa

    Mark Lawrenson
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

We should praise Villa, defensively they've been very good as you'd expect from a Dean Smith side.

They've carried a small threat but you might argue they've carried a greater threat than Liverpool. They'll be delighted with 0-0.

You can see with Liverpool, they've won the league and they're probably playing at 80 percent. They're not very good in all honesty at the moment.

There really is a swirling wind here and you have to deal with that. The pitch is also a bit lifeless too and they're watering it now. That might help the game a little bit.

I really hope Klopp is using these games to work out what positions need improving. Origi is painful to watch, I like Ox but we need a 'de bruyne' who can split defenses apart so we don't rely on the wing backs every game. This talk about not needing anyone is rubbish, there has to be competition in the squad.

    Adam, London Liverpool fan

Liverpool fans banging on about the records they're going to break. It appears the players can't be bothered with all that. Far too lazy now they've won the title.

    Liverpool 0-0 Aston Villa

Liverpool's first 45 minutes at home as champions has not been a showcase for what they've done to attain that status.

Jurgen Klopp looks frustrated. Dean Smith will be pretty happy, though. His side have given him plenty.

Liverpool simply can't get anything going. They charge forward but sloppy control allows a Villa man to nip in before he is fouled by Origi.

I've got a feeling these drinks breaks will be kept because the managers like them. Which will be terrible for fans, there's enough stopping and starting as it is with players going down all the while

And don't forget that they'll be able to squeeze more lovely adverts in too Jordan. Sigh

Ambitious. John McGinn is off balance and 40 yards from goal but has a pop anyway, with predictable results. One of the stewards is gonna have to go get that.

  8. 'You can't turn form on'published at 17:14 British Summer Time 5 July 2020

    Liverpool 0-0 Aston Villa

    Mark Lawrenson
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

One thing we haven't mentioned is it's extremely windy, which doesn't make things easy.

It just goes to show you cannot turn on form and turn it off, it's a such a great game in that way.

Despite predominately playing through the middle today Divock Origi hasn't had a single touch in the Aston Villa box or in line with the goal so far.

He's also had the joint fewest touches for Liverpool, alongside keeper Alisson.

After a brief absence from the action, the Villa midfielder is back. He doesn't look to be moving too badly but they could do with half-time to properly fix whatever is wrong.

Grealish is down again. This is not looking good for Villa. His right foot is the problem. They are having to patch something up on there repeatedly.

Tambuwal: Keita, Fabinho and Ox that should be our first midfield three next season.

DGB: I’m far from convinced about Oxlade-Chamberlain. Got huge doubts about his focus.

The delivery for the corner is a good one, right into the mixer. But despite a host of bodies, Alisson gets a fist in there to knock the ball away.

Villa regather and come again for an attack that ends with a low angled effort from El Ghazi that the Reds keeper saves.

Salah has not had a good half. Liverpool attack but his sloppy pass ends it as Villa intercept.

This sparks a counter, which ends with a cross that Andy Robertson has to head behind for a corner...

A Liverpool effort at goal. A rare Liverpool effort at goal. Mo Salah volleys towards the net from an angle but he doesn't catch it right and Reina is down and behind it.

To the rival fans who dismiss Firmino, this is what we play like when he isn't in the team. No forward drive or cohesion whatsoever.

Make no mistake, Liverpool are flat here. Villa look the more lively right now. A cross from Trezeguet is just too high for two of his onrushing team-mates to make any contact in the box.

I've just seen a replay of the Trent corner from earlier. Did Konsa get a bit lucky? The ball dropped and appeared to strike a bit of arm as he looked to control it. VAR must have had a look and decided there was no offence. But then who knows what is and isn't handball these days?

A shot on goal. It is Douglas Luiz with it, hammering an effort from the edge of the box but straight into Alisson's midriff.
