  1. goal

GOAL - Brighton 0-2 Liverpoolpublished at 7 mins

    Jordan Henderson

    This could get very messy...

Brighton give away possession in midfield. They just can't handle Liverpool's pressing! Georginio Wijnaldum slips it through to Mohamed Salah, who tees it up for Jordan Henderson.

He strikes it from the edge of the box cleanly into the left corner. Wonderful goal!

That's poor game management from Brighton.

At times in a game the goalkeeper needs to know when to stick his foot through the ball.

Brighton overplay it at the back.

  3. goal

GOAL - Brighton 0-1 Liverpoolpublished at 5 mins

    Mohamed Salah

Mat Ryan plays it short to Davy Propper, who's first touch is a shocker. Naby Keita nips in and steals it off him, plays it across the centre and Roberto Firmino leaves it for Mohamed Salah to coolly thump into the net.

A simple goal, a selfless leave by Firmino and an awful start from Brighton.

    Brighton 0-0 Liverpool

Neco Williams' trainee Trent Alexander-Arnold whips a cross in from the right towards Roberto Firmino. His shot is heavily deflected.

From the corner, Naby Keita almost gets on the end of it but Virgil van Dijk has fouled in the build-up.

    Brighton 0-0 Liverpool

Young Neco Williams, playing at left-back tonight, turns sharply and beats Tariq Lamptey on the wing.

It's a confident start but he then messes up the pass. Love the enthusiasm though!

    FT: Man City 5-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce tells BBC Sport: "Interview in the rain after being beaten 5-0, painful. Not as half as painful as watching that. We are disappointing but they were far too good for us, we have to do better, we gifted them some goals and you cannot do that against a team of this calibre.

"We cannot be without six and seven of our better players, certainly at a place like this, this was one too far. They proved today on their day they are too good for us.

"We have had one or two moments this year and have bounced back but we have to be mentally ready and mentally better than what we have done tonight. I will make sure on Saturday [against Watford] we will be ready."

"We are never happy when we lose and we want to respond straightaway, which is what we did.

"We love football firstly and love to play it. It is our jobs and we have to do the work. There are big things happening soon with the FA Cup and Champions League so we have to be ready for the important games."

    Brighton v Liverpool (20:15 BST)

    Charlie Adam
Former Liverpool midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Its a fantastic opportunity for Jurgen Klopp to give the young lads a chance.

No doubt they'll get game time from no until the end of the season and it's good for them in their learning curve.

The club is on the crest of a wave and for the young lads it will be massive for them.

Liverpool are producing talent but those players still have to move international players out the way so it's going to be difficult for them.

  14. 'Silva is fantastic'published at 20:12 British Summer Time 8 July 2020

    FT: Man City 5-0 Newcastle

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Sport: "We played really good all the games but unfortunately dropped points. In general the way we are playing and the performances are really good.

"David Silva is a huge competitor, playing in the small spaces he is a fantastic player. He played really good."

On scoring lots of goals: "Always we try to do it, for respect for the competition and our opponent. It is good to score five goals again. One point ahead to qualify for the Champions League.

"We miss the fans a lot. It is not the same. When the virus is weaker and it is safer to come back, we will see together."

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche on BT Sport: “Last few games have been fantastic. It’s a challenge when they lose team-mates. There’s a resilience, you add in organisation and physical prowess, and they’ve got more talent than people give credit for.

“Two centre halves were outstanding, the keeper was outstanding. They asked a lot of questions, had a couple of golden moments, and our keeper was there when needed.

“We have a culture and environment we believe in. It’s that commitment to the cause. The next game comes very quickly and it’s Liverpool, they’re not bad…”

    FT: Man City 5-0 Newcastle

    Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez tells BT Sport: "We made it easy by scoring early in the game and had more control after.

"We play good but did not have luck against Southampton and missed lot of chances, the difference is today we scored.

"Everyone can score that is on our team, they all have the qualities. I want to try to help the team and score as many goals as I can.

"We need to keep it up, keep working and try to help the team to improve."

Not too much to play for in this game with Brighton pretty much safe, with a nine-point gap on the bottom three. Even with a win tonight they would remain in 15th place.

Liverpool, champions of course, are still chasing Manchester City's record points tally so they have a little something to aim for.
