Bit of random half-time football discussion...

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been talking about whether David Silva should get a statue outside the Etihad.

"I don't know. This club had many incredible top players. Zaba, Hart, Kompany, Silva, Aguero, these types of guys. This group of players helped this club be where it is. After this kind of thing we name a street, a pitch. It’s not my business."

    HT: Brighton 1-2 Liverpool

It's been a half of two halves in the battle between Tariq Lamptey and Neco Williams, I would say.

Liverpool's Williams started really well, getting the better of Lamptey and putting some good balls into the box.

He may have got too comfortable though, as Lamptey took advantage of him being out of position more and more as the half went on.

Plenty of lessons being learned by both youngsters tonight.

Liverpool have dominated and Jurgen Klopp will be frustrated losing that goal at the end of the half.

They have been in cruise control since the first eight minutes.

Brighton have, after the first 10 minutes, gone after Liverpool and they've been able to create a few opportunities.

It is now quite an open game and Brighton are certainly back in it.

  6. HALF-TIMEpublished at 21:04 British Summer Time 8 July 2020

    Brighton 1-2 Liverpool

Decent game. Liverpool are creating plenty of chances but Brighton are being a nuisance too. Could see a few more goals in the second half...

It's game on. Its been a good game, played at a decent tempo.

Brighton keep overplaying at the back, any bad touch and they could easily find themselves 3-1 down.

Liverpool respond immediately, pressing high and robbing the ball off Dale Stephens. Mohamed Salah finds Roberto Firmino, who plays it left to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

His strike is deflected out for a corner.

GOAL - Brighton 1-2 Liverpoolpublished at 45 mins

    Leandro Trossard

This has been coming a little, Liverpool have switched off a few times at the back since getting those two early goals.

There's space on the right which Brighton exploit with a hooked ball over the top. Tariq Lamptey plays a lovely cross into the middle and Leandro Trossard's half-volley is thumped into the back of the net.

    What a finish! Game on.

    Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

Leandro Trossard is complaining to the referee that he was caught late by Roberto Firmino's flailing arm as he gives the ball away to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Nothing comes of it and Mohamed Salah goes down the right, looking for a one-two with Georginio Wijnaldum.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 42 mins

    Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

Tariq Lamptey gets his body in front of Neco Williams as the ball comes over to the right and the Liverpool full-back ends up tripping him up.

He gets a yellow for it which is really harsh! Pascal Gross takes the free-kick and it's an important header away from Trent Alexander-Arnold, with two Brighton players lurking behind.

    Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

Adam Webster sends one over the top where Tariq Lamptey has made a run on the right but the youngster is way offside. Neco Williams doesn't bother chasing and the flag goes up straight away.

Both full-backs showing determination to get into attacking positions.

    Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

Naby Keita has been very sharp. He plays it quickly into the feet of Mohamed Salah, who tries to curl it into the far corner.

He's not too far off but doesn't get enough whip on it.

    Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

Dan Burn swings a cross in from the left but Neco Williams' header takes it away from Pascal Gross.

From the resulting corner, Tariq Lamptey has a strike from the edge of the box and it flies just wide of the left post. Alisson had come across and probably would have saved it but Brighton have just started to make more of an impact now.

  16. 'Van Dijk best in the world'published at 20:51 British Summer Time 8 July 2020

    Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

    Charlie Adam
Former Liverpool midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Virgil van Dijk is different class, he's a Rolls-Royce at the back there.

He's taken his game to another level and he's the best centre half in the world at the moment.

    Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

Neal Maupay, to Leandro Trossard... Joe Gomez gets the block in and it's cleared by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

That's nice from Brighton though, who take advantage of a lack of concentration in Liverpool's back four.

    Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk gives the ball away - a rare occasion. It's threaded through by Davy Propper nicely for Neal Maupay.

He takes too long to shoot, trying to get a yard either side of Joe Gomez, who just held his ground, and Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold can hound him out, blocking the shot.

    Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross is headed on by Roberto Firmino but it's out of reach of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Leandro Trossard can bring it out from the back.

Liverpool win it back pretty much immediately though.

  20. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Brighton 0-2 Liverpool

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain pokes it through to Roberto Firmino in the box. The Brazilian has quick feet but not that quick as Lewis Dunk manages to get there just in time to prevent him from shooting.

It rolls through to Mat Ryan.
