That's it then. Three hundred and sixty eight days after it all got going, the final reckoning is in for the Championship as Fulham secure the last promotion place in the Premier League next season.

Joe Bryan's double was enough, despite Henrik Dalsgaard's last-seconds consolation, to send the West London club up at the expense of their near neighbours Brentford.

Leeds, West Brom and now Fulham head up to the top flight, while Bournemouth, Watford and Norwich will come down to join the race for the Championship next term.

It's been the longest season, packed with drama, tension, joy and despair. A pandemic threatened to bring it to a halt, and yet somehow we got going again. Through every conceivable emotion.

Thanks to everyone who has read an EFL match report, an EFL live text and got involved at #bbcefl on social media over the past 12 months.

Rest up now, we'll be back up before you know it. 12 September.

Until then, thank you and goodnight.

It's the best way to go up, I think the pressure, the prize and when you do win it the enjoyment and achievement you do get is unbelievable.

You can see what it means, Scott Parker is fighting his tears away and I've never seen him like that.

All of your season is building up to this one game and when you achieve it it's the best thing.

Well done to Brentford, it's been an amazing season for them and they can be very proud as a club, with the players and manager they have, they are moving in the right direction even though they didn't win.

Lewis Wright: A moment of pure quality changes a game just like that!!

Stu: Brentford are destined not to make the Premier League.

Erunke: So sad for Brentford, you guys did a good job just wasn't your day. Dust yourself up and try again next season is certainly yours.

Ruth Paton: Neither of these teams are good enough for the Premier League. Fulham were average at best and Brentford were poor. They rarely showed incisive, attacking skill. They both played possession football in front of the opposition defence. Fulham deserved the win by default.

  4. Frank proud of Brentford progresspublished at 22:53 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

FT: Brentford 1-2 Fulham - Fulham promoted to Premier League

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has just been speaking to the media, reflecting on his side's play-off final defeat.

He said: "First I would like to say congratulations to Fulham, Scott Parker, his coaching staff and everyone involved.

"Of course it's tough when you lose a final like this in a very tight game but I’m extremely proud of my players.

"We have gone from a mid-table club to a team who, in the league table, was the third-best team.

"We are very fine margins away from the Premier League, which is an incredible achievement from us."

  5. 'I'm proud this team represents what I've been saying'published at 22:51 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

FT: Brentford 1-2 Fulham - Fulham promoted to Premier League

Fulham boss Scott Parker told Sky Sports:

"We've done what we've done tonight, but there's still improvement, and that's what makes me so proud and happy.

"For all of the good players and everything you see, what makes me so happy I see a group of players who only a year ago were struggling psychologically, didn't have a mindset or mentality.

"I've driven this team every single day and what makes me proud is I stood on the touchline tonight and seen a team that represents what I've been saying over the last 12 months."

I think Scott Parker has carried himself with great dignity this season, if you had said this after the first couple of games after the restart you would not have believed it.

Tonight the game plan and the movement of the front players caused Brentford problems from the first whistle.

He's done a brilliant job in preparing the side for this game.

  8. 'We stayed humble'published at 22:41 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

FT: Brentford 1-2 Fulham - Fulham promoted to Premier League

Fulham defender Michael Hector told Sky Sports:

"I'm buzzing. We stayed humble all week, it was special. It's such a shame there are no fans. People wrote us off but we stuck to our plan. We knew we had to go up through the play-offs and it was beautiful.

"We had to keep a high line [to put Brentford off] and make them play long-balls. They had to throw people forward.

"The best way to go up is through the play-offs but without the fans it's tough. We had to create our own atmosphere, the players did, it's a special group. We were the better team."

Just a word on Fulham's goalscoring hero tonight...

He scored another two in his 78th. Turned out to be pretty important, too.

Joe Bryan is the unlikely Fulham hero, he's taken them back to the Premier League.

Brentford fans, I really feel sorry for you this evening, that is the ninth attempt at the play-offs including four finals and they have lost them all, they'll know it's slipped through their hands.

You are at the mercy at the brilliant performance from another team and that is what we've seen from Fulham tonight, they have now won two Championship play-off finals in the last three seasons.

There's no victorious trudge up to the Royal Box for the players here tonight, they will receive the trophy on the pitch.

But there's no lack of excitement and joy in the trophy lift.

Champagne sprays, promotion is sealed, and Fulham will again be at football's top table next season.

FT: Brentford 1-2 Fulham - Fulham promoted to Premier League

Fulham captain Tom Cairney told Sky Sports:

"I can't put it into words. It feels special. We got written off a bit this year, no one talked about us, they talked about Brentford and Leeds.

"It shows the spirit in the dressing room, not many teams bounce back up.

"I knew we had that performance in us, all season when we needed to win we've done it when it mattered.

"Brentford are a great side, a pleasure to watch and these were the two best sides in the Championship play-off final."

Fulham two-goal hero Joe Bryan told Sky Sports:

"I'm not the hero, every single one of them, fans and people around us who has been with us all season is.

"We've been written off five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10 times, I think I read somewhere we were supposed to be scared of them.

"We took it to them, we scored twice, they made it hard for us but they're a good team and they've been playing really well.

"I can't believe we made it straight back up."

    On the free-kick goal:

"Scott told me to whip it near post, that was for my dad, he used to give me the eyes when he made me go in goal."
