We know what the question will be to Gareth Southgate after the game: "Why not Jack Grealish, why Jadon Sancho?"

Why not put a player, that's been in good form this season, on?

Jordan Henderson hasn't been on for long but he's got himself in the naughty book for a bit of back chat with the referee.

I don't think people should be worrying about this performance, friendlies are to experiment with the team and see who is suitable for when one the real stuff happens. I'm sure when the time comes Southgate will know his strongest side and we will beat teams like Denmark with ease.

    England 0-1 Denmark

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was an opportunity again for England but Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Conor Coady just get it in each other's way. It's last-ditch defending from Denmark.

A great manager makes great decisions whether the chips are up or down. Playing Maguire wasn't great, bringing on Henderson isn't great. We got lucky with a weak group, some easy knock-out group games. I'm never one to throw the baby out with the bath water, but Southgate hasn't shown enough for me.

    England 0-1 Denmark

Christian Eriksen, who has pulled all the strings for Denmark, links up with Yussuf Poulsen but England clear their lines.

It's only as far as Poulsen on the edge of the box but his shot lacks any conviction.

  8. CLOSE!published at 80 mins

    England 0-1 Denmark

Jordan Henderson pretends to take it but runs over the ball and allows Reece James to swing it with pace towards goal.

It's creeping in but Kasper Schmeichel just tips it over the bar.

From the corner, Harry Kane's header falls to Conor Coady and the skipper is adament he's tugged down as he tries to get a shot away in the six-yard area. Nothing given.

  9. 'Why is Calvert-Lewin on the left?'published at 21:21 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    England 0-1 Denmark

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's an odd choice from Gareth Southgate to play Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the left. Is he best suited to being out there? Is he a regular there for his club? He is not.

  10. Postpublished at 77 mins

    England 0-1 Denmark

Dominic Calvert-Lewin knocks it down for Harry Kane and he turns sharply on the edge of the Denmark box, before winning a foul and a free-kick.

Reece James and Jordan Henderson are over it.

Not a great evening for Manchester United centre-backs.

  13. 'A horrible finish'published at 21:18 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    England 0-1 Denmark

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a shocking effort from Pione Sisto. It's a horrible, horrible finish. Denmark should be home and dry.

  14. Postpublished at 75 mins

    England 0-1 Denmark

Denmark should be 2-0 up. They have a three-on-two break after Christian Eriksen robs the ball off Kalvin Phillips but Pione Sisto completely scuffs the shot.

The resulting corner is headed comfortably into Jordan Pickford's hands.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 74 mins

Gareth Southgate seems a bit inept with his tactics. I thought England would have grown in stature since the world cup but if anything they're going backwards at the moment.

    David Ashworth

Southgate out of his depth, tactically clueless and will be another Sven, wasting any talent we do produce. How can he not put Grealish on, the games crying out for his creativity??

    England 0-1 Denmark

Gareth Southgate finally makes a change. It's not the one you all want though...

Jadon Sancho and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are on. It's Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount who go off. Straight swaps.

We need to get back to 4-3-3 and utilise our strengths! We have some exciting young attacking talent we will be weak defensively whatever so let's use our talent and score some goals, no one wants to see this rubbish!

    Alex (Bristol)

England have one of the most exciting attacking lineups in Europe (if not the world) and we continue to setup with 5 defenders and two CDM's. Kane and Rashford getting absolutely no service. The boldest move Southgate has made as England manager was wearing a waistcoat. We're playing at Wembley for god's sake!

    England 0-1 Denmark

Kalvin Phillips is penalised for a thumping tackle on Yussuf Poulsen and Gareth Southgate reacts.

The Hulk then turns back into Dr Banner and Southgate nods apologetically, in the most polite way possible, when he gets a telling off from the ref.
