England need to be patient and make sure they don't chase the game. They need to be courageous on the ball and make sure they don't just lump long, high balls up to Harry Kane, if he's isolated. They've got to try and play and work little patterns.

  2. Postpublished at 48 mins

    England 0-1 Denmark

Nice play from Denmark on the edge of the England box. A few touches, a triangle of passes and Christian Eriksen gets a shot away.

It's way over the bar though.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 46 mins

    England 0-1 Denmark

There's changes at half time... but for Denmark.

Joakim Maehle and Mathias Jorgensen are on for Andreas Christensen and Robert Skov.

  8. 'Maguire will have to show real character to come back'published at 20:43 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    HT: England 0-1 Denmark

Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Is Gareth Southgate showing faith in Harry Maguire? Saying 'I back you, I know you're having a tough time but I still rate you highly and have every confidence in you'.

You can look through any area of the England team and say there are positions up for grabs, particularly in those centre-half positions. There are plenty of players with a chance of starting.

I don't mind the principle of Southgate playing Maguire, if he thinks he is England's best centre back. I think it's as simple as that.

Maguire's confidence is just shot to bits at the moment and it's horrible to see because I do think he's a really talented footballer and a good footballer but this season he has been woeful and he's going to have to show real character to come back.

A night to forget. It's just not going well for Harry Maguire at the moment.

The more you see the penalty, at first it didn't seem a penalty, but it's a very strange decision.

It was a bit of a misunderstanding between Jordan Pickford and Kyle Walker but it was never a penalty.

England have a lot of work to do but I actually think they can get back into this game. Denmark were extremely disciplined and patient but if England can work an opportunity or two then they have to take that chance.

Antoine Griezmann's thumping strike for world champions France is the difference at the interval against Croatia.

In the same group, Portugal are 2-0 in front against Sweden courtesy of goals from Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva and Liverpool's Diogo Jota for the European champions.

So who needs to come on for England? I've seen plenty of calls for Jack Grealish but anyone else?

Jadon Sancho, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jordan Henderson and Danny Ings are all on the bench, among others.

Harry Maguire has had a horrible, horrible start to the season. I really feel for him - his confidence is at such a low ebb.

Can't help but think that's Southgate's chickens coming home to roost. Promised he'd pick players on form... Maguire and Pickford two of the least in form players in the league and both making stupid mistakes here.

Please explain why Maguire is in the squad. Not as good as Coady, Keane, Mings, Mee, Dunk, Tarkowski, Gomez and Dier. Just because someone is stupid enough to pay £80m doesn't make him good.

    Eddie in Eastbourne

If that's who England think is their best Central Defender then we have no chance I'm sorry. A shameful showing by Maguire. It should be an absolute honour to play for your country and for that game you should be playing like your in a world cup final full of heart and honour.
