It's an excellent challenge from Shay Logan. Right before he makes the challenge he leans on Alan Forrest to slow him down. Any weight on him is going to knock him off his stride. He puts in an exceptional tackle

Here come Livingston on a promising counter-attack as Scott Pittman pops a pass through for Alan Forrest, who is in behind and ready to fire off a shot before Shay Logan slides in with a fantastic recovery tackle.

  7. Almost there...published at 15:00 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    Aberdeen v Livingston (15:00)

    Tyrone Smith
    BBC Scotland at Pittodrie

A muggy day at Pittodrie for what should be an interesting game.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Marley Watkins has progressed since he made such a good impact at Inverness CT a few years back.

I guess life after Lyndon Dykes officially starts for Livingston today, it is probably worth noting that they have been far from a one man team in recent times.

A lot at stake, including family bragging rights, with Aberdeen's Ross McCrorie looking to get the better of his twin brother Robby in the Livingston goal.

  8. McGinn missing with ankle knockpublished at 14:57 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    Aberdeen v Livingston (15:00)

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes confirms that Niall McGinn is missing after taking a bang on the ankle.

"We're hoping it's nothing too sinister," he tells BBC Sportsound.

  9. Dons enjoy upper hand on Livipublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    Aberdeen v Livingston (15:00)

Livingston have made life difficult for most teams since their return to the Premiership but Aberdeen have had their measure, winning four of the five meetings over the past two seasons.

The Dons are unbeaten in their last 11 Scottish top-flight matches against today's visitors (W8 D3).

  10. 'It's important we find our rhythm' - McInnespublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    Aberdeen v Livingston (15:00)

Just like Gary Holt, Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is happy to have a new striker on board.

However, unlike Anthony Stokes, Marley Watkins starts today at and McInnes reveals that he has tried to sign the former Inverness CT man in the past.

"He's a player I was keen to bring here before. He knows the league and he brings us movement at the top end of the pitch," McInnes tells BBC Sportsound.

"It was also about getting one in who could complement playing alongside (currently injured trio) Curtis Main, Sam Cosgrove or Ryan Edmondson.

"It's important we find our rhythm and we look for improved performances - and it will happen because it always does.

"We are hoping for that again today, but ultimately if we get three points at the end of it I'll be more than pleased."

At this stage of the season when Aberdeen have missed games, if I was a player or fan I'd just be happy to get the win any way you can, then you can build momentum in the squad

  12. Livingston back at it after shaky startpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    Aberdeen v Livingston (15:00)

Livingston prop up the Premiership table following yesterday's win for Hamilton Accies.

Having opened with two defeats, including a 4-1 thrashing at home from Hibs, Gary Holt's side have displayed more of the grit we associate with them in creditable draws with Motherwell and Rangers.

Livi dug in and grafted hard to frustrate Steven Gerrard's side last Sunday and that may well be their game plan again today.

  14. So, what happened on Saturday?published at 14:32 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

Rangers eased to a 2-0 win over Kilmarnock in another one-sided match at Ibrox to move clear at the top.

Celtic needed a late intervention from Albian Ajeti to get past stubborn Dundee United at Tannadice.

It was another day of woe for Motherwell, who were stung by a late Hamilton Accies goal, Hakeem Odoffin making amends for a glaring miss just moments before, while 10-man St Mirren were pegged back in a 1-1 draw with Ross County after Joe Shaugnessy's red card.

There's no doubt about Anthony Stokes' qualities as a striker but he's not renowned for his work ethic and that's what Livingston are all about. He's certainly not a straight swap for Lyndon Dykes

  16. Stokes 'hungry' but rusty, says Holtpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    Aberdeen v Livingston (15:00)

Livingston manager Gary Holt says he is "delighted" to sign Anthony Stokes, who has 136 goals to his name in Scottish football.

"He trained yesterday and you could see his qualities," Holt tells BBC Scotland, although the new striker is not available today.

"He is hungry and wants to put everything that's been said about him behind him. Hopefully, he'll buy into what we are about.

"He hasn't played for a while, so we'll need to be patient with him and he needs to be patient too.

"Our last couple of performances have been more like us in terms of intensity and how we go about our work.

"We've had really good battles against Aberdeen and we've been unlucky a few times. But you make your own luck. We know we need to be at it, they're an exceptional side."

  17. Can Hibs stick with the pace at the top?published at 14:19 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    St Johnstone v Hibernian (16:30)

Hibs can join Rangers at the top of the table with a win this afternoon.

The Easter Road side are unbeaten but saw their winning run come to an end in a rather lifeless 0-0 draw at home to Motherwell last weekend.

They have yet to concede a goal from open play, with young guns Ryan Porteous and Josh Doig impressing in defence and Alex Gogic adding some steel to the midfield.

Strikers Christian Doidge and Kevin Nisbet have been among the goals, so it's a case of so far, so good for manager Jack Ross.

My colleague Martin Watt has been taking a closer look at the Hibees' fine start in more detail. You can read his observations here.

  19. McCrorie v McCroriepublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    Aberdeen v Livingston (15:00)

Twin brothers Robby and Ross face each other today.

Ross made his Aberdeen debut on Thursday after leaving Rangers on loan, while Robby is in his second loan spell at Livi from the Ibrox club.

However, Ross isn't going back to Rangers since a deal for a permanent transfer has already been agreed.

We reckon Chris and Nicky Cadden were the last set of twins to go head to head in the Premiership a couple of seasons back.

  20. Watkins starts for Dons, Livi must wait to play Stokespublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    Aberdeen v Livingston (15:00)

Aberdeen throw Marley Watkins straight in after his loan signing from Bristol City, while Scott McKenna is back after his period of self-isolation.

There are five changes in total from Thursday's win at St Johnstone, with Ryan Hedges earning a start after scoring the only goal in Perth and Shay Logan taking over at right-back from Ronald Hernandez.

Matty Kennedy also starts, with Niall McGinn is nowhere to be seen, so maybe he has a knock. Funso Ojo is the other man making way.

Sam Cosgrove remains on the sidelines and Andrew Considine completes a two-match suspension.

The visitors make two changes, with Robby McCrorie returning in goals after sitting out against parent club Rangers and Scott Robinson back in. Jack Hamilton drops to the bench, along with Max Stryjek, who is a bit unlucky after keeping a clean sheet.

New arrival Julien Serrano takes a place among the substitutes but clearance has not arrived for fellow new signings Anthony Stokes and Lars Lokotsch.
