Rob Edwards: So impressive this performance from Everton. The new signings all shone. They are gonna surprise lots of people this season.

Mr E: How long till the spurs players get Jose sacked like they did Poch?

Spurs actually had more shots on target than Everton (5-4) and had more of the ball - but it didn't feel like it.

Jose Mourinho has a sort of smirk on his face as he strides off while Carlo Ancelotti congratulates his players.

On this performance, we need to prepared for the very real prospect of going out of the Europa league to Plovdiv next game

    Tottenham 0-1 Everton

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has ended on the losing side just once in his 21 league matches on the opening weekend in his career (W15 D5), losing 1-2 against Bologna as AC Milan manager in the 2008-09 season.

He doesn't intend to start now, as Moise Kean comes on to replace goalscorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Moussa Sissoko gallops in from the right but Lucas can't pick him out. Everton close to the win now.

That is indeed on Jose's to-do list Paul, but it can't be easy. Dominic Calvert-Lewin runs in beind well and gets a shot off that is straight at Hugo Lloris.

Richarlison then does brilliantly down on the touchline to spin out of trouble before he and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg collide. Both are hurt.

    Hojbjerg is booked.

Oliver: It is going to be a long, long season. The Spurs documentary showed it: this isn't a happy club. There's no buzz. There's no drive. Reckon we'll scrape top 10

Paul: Kane has been poor today but I feel sorry for him. He hasn't had a proper break where he wasn't injured for ages so no surprise he isn't fit. Spurs don't help by not signing a decent forward to help him out a bit so he can have a rest here and there

Everton look a bit shaky from it but Jordan Pickford comes to haymaker it clear.

Into the last 10 minutes and all this praise for Everton will mean nothing if they don't win this. Spurs still only need one chance for Harry Kane, as Ben Davies wins a corner.

I think Moussa Sissoko has gone to right-back, which makes it three positions in half an hour. Spurs not exactly a settled side today.

Matt Doherty was class for Wolves in a wing-back role but I did wonder if he could do the same job in a back four, and playing under Jose Mourinho.

He didn't get forwards much today BUT did have one good chance.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 76 mins

    Tottenham 0-1 Everton

I would have loved to see Toto rock up at Everton in about 1996.

Jordan Pickford come off his line and punches away as Mourinho makes another change - Matt Doherty is replaced by Tanguy Ndombele.

Eric Dier has always been a big worry playing at centre half. If Mourinho insists on keep playing him there then I can see big problems for us this season.

Yes James Rodriguez is doing ok, but he doesn't deserve all the gushing plaudits every pundit is lavishing on him. He hasn't had any real significant bearing on the game, as yet. Sometimes the hype is more than the player deserves. It has been 6 (yes six) years since he has done anything impressive. Toto Schillachi was golden boot winner at the '90 world cup and look what happened to him.

Everton now look like European quality team.

We have spoken about James Rodriguez and Allan but Abdoulaye Doucoure has been sensational as well.

They can bring Gylfi Sigurdsson on which shows the depth they have.

Some cohesive thinking for once at Goodison? They look a new side. We are only 70 minutes into the season, mind.

They could do with another and Richarlison again bends one just wide!

There's a lot to like about this Everton display. Seamus Coleman nearly crafts another chance with a lovely ball in, Spurs just look sluggish in comparison.
