Aaron Connolly races away down the left and curls it beautifully around the keeper. It smacks off the outside of the far post but the flag is up anyway. He was offside!

Looks like Newcastle have woken up in the second half. Their defence has somewhat improved, still not sure they can make a comeback at this rate

Weve been 3rd to the ball today. Make Steve Bruce General Manager for transfers etc but bring in a decent Head Coach.

    Newcastle 0-2 Brighton

Brighton don't look too flustered despite Newcastle looking much sharper in this second half.

Jeff Hendrick tries to win it back in midfield but ends up fouling Leandro Trossard. They'll take their time with the free-kick.

He has to score. It's a great ball in from Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson has got it all wrong. That is the big chance he has been waiting for on his home debut.

Prior to being subbed, Tariq Lamptey had made more interceptions (4) and won more fouls (4) than any other player in the match.

    This is more like it.

Miguel Almiron weaves and teases in the box and tries to get a shot away but Dan Burn does really well to get a block in.

Almiron then curls a cross in from the left but Callum Wilson, unmarked in the middle, heads over the bar.

    Chance.

Neal Maupay turns and drives through the middle. There's space for him again as the defenders just keep backing off.

He shoots from distance in the end but again, it's straight at Karl Darlow.

It must be an injury for Tariq Lamptey - it can't be anything else. I can see him feeling the back of his hamstring or his knee. He's been outstanding. Newcastle will be happy with this change.

Miguel Almiron just matched Tariq Lamptey tracking back then so I think this has been a good change from Steve Bruce, but it is a change that came too late as the damage had already been done in the first half.

Newcastle play the free-kick short to Jonjo Shelvey in the middle. He lifts it into the box but Jamaal Lascelles' header, from way out, bounces harmlessly wide.

Aaron Connolly then goes up the other end and gets the better of Javier Manquillo before looking back to Solly March for support.

Re David Huggan - the record for a 20 team Premier League is 43, the 47 goal weekend you reference in 1993 would have had 22 teams. So shall we settle on the record being 2.15 goals per team?

Brighton fans look away now but this stat may give a ray of hope to Newcastle supporters out there.

On both of the last two occasions Brighton have scored twice in the first half of an away Premier League game, they've lost (April 2018 v Palace & January 2019 v Fulham).

It's fizzed in by Miguel Almiron and Jonjo Shelvey is in space in the box but it's a difficult chance for him.

He tries to divert it towards goal with a first-time effort but the volley slices wide.

Newcastle are getting into the right areas though.

Nufc totally different to last week but Fraser has been bright since he came on. He's our big hope for the second half. Howay the lads!
