  1. 'Thiago arrival looks a snip'published at 16:17 British Summer Time 20 September 2020

    Match of the Day commentator

Thiago Alcantara's arrival at Anfield looks a snip at an initial £20m. It's Liverpool's most expensive signing since they captured Alisson from Roma more than two years ago. Jurgen Klopp's recent barbs about Chelsea's summer spending were probably born of some frustration; remember how Liverpool had baulked at Werner's £53m price tag.

Against Leeds on Saturday, Liverpool were lucky that Mohamed Salah was in the mood to bury anything and everything that came his way.

Salah - a misfit from Chelsea's past - is one more hat-trick away from completing a century of goals for Liverpool more quickly than Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler or Michael Owen - no mean feat for a guy who plays off the wing.

    Dion Dublin
Former Aston Villa & Man Utd striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Thiago Alcantara is an incredible holding midfield player that wants to be the man, that's the thing that's going to change things at Liverpool. He wants to be the man, he wants that position to be his own. There are other players at Liverpool in that position that are arguably as good as him. He's going to have earn the right to play, I am going to keep my eye on that.

Plenty of smiles from Reds new boy Thiago Alcantara in the warm-up, despite having to make do with a place on the bench.

    A real bargain at £20m.

Derby defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

When you pay a world record fee of £70m for a goalkeeper I think you want more. If you are talking about Alisson (of Liverpool) or Kepa both being the same price - it's chalk and cheese.

  6. 'Defence is Chelsea's biggest downfall'published at 16:07 British Summer Time 20 September 2020

    Chelsea v Liverpool (16:30 BST)

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I was lucky enough to be at Anfield for the game against Chelsea when Liverpool clinched the title and we saw that night the standard of defending from both sides was an issue.

We saw last weekend, the standard of defending from Liverpool wasn't good enough, it wasn't the standard we expected it to be at.

Chelsea have had to go into the transfer market to improve their defence because that is one of their biggest downfalls.

The centre-back position wasn't strong enough - we know they have recruited Thiago Silva.

Left-back was an issue for them - Marcos Alonso is a great attacking player but defensively he is suspect. Ben Chillwell has been brought into that position.

But the biggest problem Chelsea have had is Kepa. They have looked to strengthen in that position and it looks like they have signed a goalkeeper (Edouard Mendy from Rennes) to come in and compete. Whether he will start or it will be Kepa we will wait and see.

Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Marcos Alonso all starting for Chelsea today.

I'm watching shots of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell, who are sitting in the stands at Stamford Bridge today, having a chin wag as they are not involved.

That's some squad depth the Blues have got now.

Ar vind: It’s going to be goals galore at Stamford bridge today. As a Red, I am a little worried about our makeshift defence against Werner et al. I think Chelsea will edge a win

    Top stuff, cheers Emma.

Chelsea and Liverpool shared eight goals the last time they met just two months ago, so we would not mind a repeat of that, would we?

That's me done on here. Shamoon Hafez is taking over and he's promised he'll bring goals with him.

I've had 10 so far today so no pressure.

    See ya!

Brighton were worthy winners. They got their tactical shape spot on and were by far the better team. Every time they went forward they looked like they were going to score. It was a bad day at the office for Newcastle.

He's not looking at the man, he's trying to flick the ball. It's not a red card for me. He's not deliberately gone in to kick Jamal Lewis in the face.

    That's a blow.

Needless really. But it was dangerous. Jamal Lewis has got blood all over his face and Yves Bissouma isn't surprised. He's concerned for the Newcastle player and goes over again to make sure Lewis is okay.
