  1. 'We have lost the plot with it'published at 17:27 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

    Tottenham 1-1 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce talking to BBC Sport: "The handball has been around for a hundred years. If it deliberate, no problem, but it has to be clear and obvious. We have lost the plot with it and it loses the spectacle of it.

"Maybe we can do something about it, we seem to have these phases where we take everything lierally in the Premier League and maybe we have to say no to it.

"We have got away with murder today. Our goalkeeper has been fantastic but we have been fortunate. I was shaking my head wth Roy Hodgson and maybe we can do something about it. It is wrong."

You may heard there was a bit of controversy at Tottenham today, in the form of another of those handball penalties that are all the rage.

Here is a little bit of reaction to that, so you don't make the mistake of thinking it is just me that thinks it is nonsense. It's pretty much everybody...

Manchester City dominated the ball but give Leicester credit. They have always carried a threat on the break. It's probably fair going in 1-1.

Leicester were happy to park the bus. He has worked on it and thought City would tire. You know City will dominate the ball but Leicester have just hung in there.

It'll be interesting to see how the fitness levels are in the second half. For City it may be a case of bringing on one or two youngsters which [Pep Guardiola] doesn't want to do.

    Sheff Utd 0-1 Leeds

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder speaking to BT Sport: "We will be glad to see the back of September. I can’t fault a lot of the things the players have done this afternoon. I’ve been told the man of the match award has gone to the Leeds goalkeeper. You have to take your chances in the Premier League that’s the top and bottom of it.

"They found a bit of quality at the end, I think it’s a foul on Sander Berge yet again, that’s a couple of things that have not gone for us in the last two or three games but we have to be more clinical.

"The best chances fell to us, John Lundstram, George Baldock, Oli McBurnie and Jack Robinson, so four or five good chances and we all know that the first goal in the Premier League is so important.

"Thought shape of team was good. We know how Leeds play, high energy, high tempo and it was a really quick game. But when it opens up you have to take your chances and we haven’t and we get punished by a fantastic ball and a great header."

Today's first game saw Leeds claim a late win at Sheffield United. Blades boss Chris Wilder had this to say after the game...

And that's your lot for the first half. Manchester City dominated, but the score is level. Kyle Walker's foul on Jamie Vardy allowed the striker to score from the spot after Riyad Mahrez's stunning opener.

Pep Guardiola looks a bit ruffled. He walks back to his dugout rubbing his scalp and muttering to himself. His side had control, but they've allowed it to slip.

Looks like he might have a lot to say to them at the break.

Good defending from Garcia, who stays on his feet to challenge Barnes and wins a goal-kick by knocking the ball against his opponent's legs.

And we are straight back to the Leicester containing job. Five men strung across the box, four midfielders in front of them and Vardy pelting around after the ball.

Come on then title challengers, break us down.

This is the second time I have seen Leicester this season - and the third penalty I have seen Jamie Vardy score.

He converted two at West Brom on the opening weekend in similarly emphatic fashion. He backs himself to score from the spot.

It was a quality penalty high into the roof of the net. Kyle Walker was caught out of position and maybe Manchester City are just feeling the pace.

They have come off it a bit and maybe Brendan Rodgers is thinking that his gameplan is working.

And just like that, Leicester are level.

They have barely been in the game, but they've clung on with their fingertips and have taken their big chance.

    Man City 1-0 Leicester

What is Kyle Walker doing? His side is in total control but he allows Vardy to get goal-side of him and pulls him down.

    That IS a penalty.

  15. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 35 mins

    Man City 1-0 Leicester

Rodri nods the ball into the net from a De Bruyne free-kick but he moves too early and is rightly flagged offside. Not sure the Leicester defence had much of a clue, though. It was just Rodri being a bit too eager.

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Leicester look fearful of Manchester City but they have a lot of talented footballers. They should be taking the game to them now. They have to have a bit more belief and that they can give City a game.

They are showing Manchester City too much respect.

    Man City 1-0 Leicester

It continues to be patient, probing stuff from Man City. And it gets them in to another decent position, with Kevin de Bruyne fed down the channel for a low ball that is hacked away by a Leicester defender.

It takes a lot to be a class apart from a side as good as this Man City one. De Bruyne is that man.

James Justin had the opportunity of a shot from 12 yards. Why did he not just pull the trigger? The Man City goalkeeper was eight yards off his line. Leicester should be doing (going forward) that more often. They have got the players.

Leicester enjoying a little bit of the ball for a change. But they're largely penned in their own half and making good use of Schmeichel. The home goal might as well be 100 miles away, never mind 100 yards.

This is typical Leicester under Brendan Rodgers. Steamroll sides out of form or with poorer players than ours. No idea against teams with superior individuals or who bother tackling us. He's a poor tactician.
