PSG were well on top in the first half but Manchester City were excellent after the break to record a famous win and put one foot in the final in Istanbul.

Can they complete the job? We'll find out next week. Here's the best reaction from a cracking night.

Former Aston Villa striker Dion Dublin on BBC Radio 5 live: "It's difficult to know what Pep Guardiola said to the players at half time because Manchester City were a completely different side in the second half. Outstanding."

Former England winger Chris Waddle on BBC Radio 5 live: "It was a different Manchester City side in the second half. There was more tempo, more movement, they all enjoyed the ball more. PSG dropped off the pace, though. Mbappe and Neymar, we didn't see them second half at all."

Former Manchester City midfielder Owen Hargreaves on BT Sport:"A brilliant second-half performance. Fantastic. World-class performance. PSG were chasing shadows. Two away goals is the perfect result.

"Good game management, good on set-pieces. City are good when they can get high up the pitch. PSG looked like they ran out of steam."

Another masterclass by Pep. Made a decent PSG side look ordinary in that 2nd half. Brilliant performances across the pitch but Zinchenko especially, came on and changed the game. Disappointing to see PSG up to their usual antics with diving and crowding the ref but not particularly surprising.

The tie is not over by any stretch but for us to be going into the second leg of a Champions League semi final with two away goals just feels surreal. Especially after that first half.

  3. 'In general we were shy'published at 22:39 British Summer Time 28 April 2021

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to BBC Radio 5 Live: "We started good but in general, we were shy.

"We could not express. Everyone was playing safe and did not have the personality to play through. That's why we were so shy

"But the last 10-15 minutes of the first half was good. We were more aggressive without the ball. Second half was much better in terms of regaining the ball quickly. We had passion with the ball and we found the goals. We could've scored more.

"We have done the hard part of the job but if we play shy, they have the quality to turn it around. But if we play like we did in the second half and like against Aston Villa in the last games, then maybe we have the chance to reach the final.

"Everyone has to learn. This is only the second time in our history we are at this stage, so a lot of players are playing here for the first time. It's not like other teams. It's a process. Hopefully next game it is going to happen."

  4. 'Sometimes you need to be more relaxed'published at 22:30 British Summer Time 28 April 2021

    Pep GuardiolaImage source, Reuters

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to BT Sport: "We started really well. We felt pressure after conceding. Sometimes we have to do more touches. A lot of people, it was the first time in the semi-finals and wanted to do it well. The last 10 minutes was good. In the second half we were excellent in every department. Two away goals. We have a hard job in six days.

"Sometimes you need to be more relaxed and be ourselves. The first half is normal - 180 minutes, you don't want to lose the ball, you don't play free. We changed a little in the way we press. We were passive [earlier on]. Then we were more aggressive. It's not easy against Mbappe, Neymar, Di Maria. Afterwards we found goals and could have scored another. I'm so satisfied with the performance but we're only halfway. There are 90 more minutes. PSG are a team, anything can happen.

"We didn't have the good possession in right positions. That sometimes is normal. This club don't have much experience in the semi-finals of this tournament. This will help us. In the second half we were aggressive and played really good.

"Against Dortmund, we conceded and came back. Today the same. Be ourselves in the second half. We are good playing in a certain way - we can't do a different way."

    Paris St-Germain 1-2 Manchester City

    Paris St-Germain
    Paris St-Germain

PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino to BT Sport: "There were two different halves, we did well in the first half but it is difficult to eliminate a team like City. We deserved to be ahead but they were better than us and dominated the second half. The two goals were accidents, but they created more than us. It was one half for each team.

"The two goals are very disappointing. It is difficult to accept but that can happen, and it has happened in a semi-final. It is very painful.

"It is difficult to explain why they were better but we were better in the first half. It was difficult to cope, their physical condition, they were more aggressive. We didn't show the energy you need. The red card could be yellow, could be red, it was an action.

"The second leg, in football you need to believe. They have the advantage."

    Real Madrid 1-1 Chelsea

Who will make it to Istanbul?

Abdul Said: You don't defend your lead against City, you play football, Advice for Pochettino.

Guy Hide: City were fantastic in that second half. But comparing PSG tonight against PSG v Bayern is folly. Munich were missing three key players. Take KDB, Gundogan & Mahrez out of City's attack and maybe PSG snatch that 1-0.

Abhi Redy: Man City was fantastic end of the day. But it's not one day affair. PSG was all over City in the first half and they are stronger on the road than home in Champions League. So, fingers crossed. Come on City.

    Paris St-Germain 1-2 Manchester City

    Dion Dublin
Former Man Utd striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's difficult to know what Pep Guardiola said to the players at half time because Manchester City were a completely different side in the second half. Outstanding.

I wanted Phil Foden and Kevin de Bruyne to step up and they did - they ran the show in the second half. De Bruyne was outstanding.

City just upped the tempo and the likes of Rodri weren't getting caught on the ball. Everything was working for City but it must've been what the manager said.

I have to give credit to Guardiola for making sure all his players put a shift in. PSG were surprised by the energy levels and organisation of City.

Manchester City goalscorer Kevin de Bruyne to BT Sport: "It was a game of two halves. We started well in the first 10 minutes but PSG are an unbelievable team and have great quality up front. It was a shame the way we conceded. After that they had a couple of small chances. After 25 minutes we changed the way we pressed them and it became better.

"The second half was much, much better. We put them under pressure. The first goal was a little bit lucky with the way it went in, but we played great football and we did well."

What was said at half-time? "Just play a little bit more with the ball. The first half, we were a bit too rushed, trying to go forward too quickly and that's not the way we are set up as a team. In the second half we tried to find space more patiently. They're a tough team to play against. The progression we made as a team was good."

On his goal: "It set up in a perfect position. It's so difficult for the goalkeeper because he expects someone to touch it. We kept going and with the second goal Riyad is good for us. He asked me if he could take it and I said 'yes, if you believe in yourself'. He scored. Who am I to say something?

"There is still a game to go and we have to concentrate on that."

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Newcastle and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

There were no "superstars" in the Manchester City side. They work as a team and work together. Yes, they have terrific footballers and are great to watch but they are firstly a team.

You look at Paris Saint-Germain, they also have great players - and two superstars in the modern game - but I think Kylian Mbappe and Neymar let the team down tonight.
