  1. Freezing conditions at Man Citypublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 4 May 2021

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

We may be into May but the conditions are like a bleak mid-winter at Etihad Stadium.

The playing surface looks like it has a covering of snow after a prolonged deluge and hailstorm which hit the stadium and temperatures are so low that several City players are warming up in scarves, bobble hats and tracksuit bottoms. Lots of pavements around the ground were flooded before kick-off.

    More like December than May.

  2. 'Man City can beat anybody'published at 19:43 British Summer Time 4 May 2021

If Man City can be calm, understand the tactics and be clinical they are literally one of the best sides in the world and can beat anybody. Pep understands that this is a big game for his players and it's a big game for him as well.

It will be very interesting to see how they do today. If you follow Man City they've played some of the best football we've seen so far this year. But that's because they understand the system and don't let the occasion get to them. Can they do that now it's the biggest game of the season?

As a centre back, not having Mbappe for me is a real boost. I'm thinking that's one problem out of the way. If you're fit enough to be on the bench you're fit enough to start . It's going to be a tough one for sure, but not having Mbappe on the pitch, I'd feel much, much better.

  4. Take nothing for grantedpublished at 19:40 British Summer Time 4 May 2021

Man City v PSG (Agg: 2-1, 20:00 BST)

For those Manchester City fans old enough to remember before all the money came flooding in and they weren't quite the powerhouse they are now, there will be that familiar twang of fear in the back of their mind. Memories of all the times when it went wrong, the mediocrity, the relegations, the times when their club seemed built to hurt them.

It is those fans who will be most attuned to the idea that this tie is far from over. That football likes nothing more than to pull the rug. It is, after all, the hope that kills you.

If City do pull this off, I can't imagine they'll make it easy. Or maybe that's just the greedy neutral fan in me desperate for a Champions League classic tonight?

I wasn't expecting PSG to come out like they did in the first leg. They were completely and utterly flying for the first 35 minutes. Neymar and Mbappe were outstanding. Neymar was doing skills I've never seen before. He was so good and so exciting, but the game seemed to fall away in the second half.

I think it's down to what Pep said at half-time. They're the moments that make Pep the manager he is. He must have said the right things to get the right response and in the second half City were just unplayable. So professional, they got over the line and should have got more goals. It could easily have been four or five.

Manchester City have craved triumph in the Champions League as confirmation they are a European superpower - and this magnificent display brings that ambition closer than it has ever been before.

The Premier League leaders had to show all their qualities before finally overpowering their hosts, who ran out of steam after showing real class in the first half, with Neymar and Di Maria pulling the strings.

Ruben Dias and John Stones were prominent as City held firm in the first half, while after the break, as they showed greater ambition, Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker carried real attacking threat, and the visitors played with enormous maturity as they pinned PSG back in their own half.

Their menace grew throughout and it was no surprise when De Bruyne levelled then Mahrez put them ahead - indeed PSG ended so beaten and disorganised they may almost feel grateful they only lost 2-1.

City's Champions League history is littered with disappointments in the latter stages of the tournament, often mired in tactical confusion or ill-luck - not so here.

Those experiences mean they will take nothing for granted when this dangerous PSG side come to Etihad Stadium in six days but City have never been in better shape to reach a Champions League final.

Man City v PSG (Agg: 2-1, 20:00 BST)

The situation is, of course, different this time round for Man City. It is they going into the home leg of the semi-final as favourites, having won 2-1 last week.

Their display in Paris was one of the finest seen by an English side in this competition, as they came from behind through goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez to lead.

Here is what our chief football writer Phil McNulty had to say about their display...

So what of that previous Champions League semi-final appearance for Man City?

Well, it came in 2015-16 and was the final swing of the bat by Manuel Pellegrini to try and do what nobody else had done before for the club.

Between them and the final stood the little matter of Real Madrid, who had left the Etihad with a 0-0 draw in the first leg, making them firm favourites to reach the final.

This was a Real side containing an at-peak Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, with Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Isco pulling strings in midfield and Pepe and Sergio Ramos being bringing their unique combination of talent and sh... shenanigans at the back.

An own goal from Fernando settled the tie at the Bernabeu.

Real went on to win the trophy - the first of three titles on the bounce. City hadn't been past the last eight since. Until now.

Man City v PSG (Agg: 2-1, 20:00 BST)

Mbappe's inability to start is absolutely a blow, but PSG have coped without big players before.

They didn't have Neymar available in Barcelona. Marco Verratti missed was out for the tie with Bayern.

On top of that, PSG have won all five of their previous games under Mauricio Pochettino in which Mbappe hasn't started.

I'd be amazed if we don't see the forward in action at some point.

It's still a task and a half for Man City to get get over this hurdle. I don't understand why Mbappe is on the bench. If you've got an injury and it's OK to be on the bench, then you'd rather start him. As a player if there's any niggle or injury at all, you'd rather warm up and play the game whilst your injuries warm. Being on the bench and coming off, I'm not sure that's going to work.
