That is absolutely the right call.

City fans, you can swallow your heart now.

This is going to get ruled out.

It has hit Zinchenko's shoulder. The top of it too.

  3. PENALTY TO PSGpublished at 20:09 British Summer Time 4 May 2021

Man City 0-0 PSG (Agg: 2-1)

Lift off! PSG have been awarded a penalty after the ball strikes Zinchenko in the box.

It came over a group of players in front of him and he couldn't get out of the way quickly enough.

But wait, there may be a reprieve...

Man City 0-0 PSG (Agg: 2-1)

The referee will need to be really strong here. We've already had two PSG players throw themselves to ground theatrically, the latest being Di Maria. Bjorn Kuipers doesn't flinch, though.

PSG seeing a lot of the all early on. They work an opening on the left for Neymar but his low drive from an angle is blocked.

Positive start from the visiting side.

It will take a bit of time for the players to get used to the roll of the ball on this layer of fallen hail. Such a weird sight in May.

Man City 0-0 PSG (Agg: 2-1)

Fernandinho is quickly into his aggressor role, committing a foul in the middle of the pitch to send a PSG player down and rolling around.

I think we might need to get used to that. Especially with a certain Brazilian playing.

There's a PSG man down early on. It is Alessandro Florenzi getting some ice on his knees after Phil Foden leaves a boot in and catches him. After a brief delay, the game continues.

It's been said plenty of times over the last year, but this really is a game that needed a full stadium. Oh well. Soon.

Here come the players. Just enough time for you to grab a brew (or something stronger) while they get that anthem out the way.

Should Manchester City progress tonight, they will reach their first European final for 51 years, since winning the 1970 Cup Winners' Cup final against Gornik Zabrze. This would break the record for the longest gap between appearances in European finals, currently held by Sporting Lisbon (41 years between 1964 Cup Winners' Cup final and 2005 Uefa Cup final).

If you want to know the story of the 1970 final, you can do so here.

Man City v PSG (Agg: 2-1, 20:00 BST)

This is very much a secondary concern tonight, but Man City are on the verge of achieving a European Cup record for an English side.

City have won their past six Champions League matches and victory tonight would see them set a new longest winning run by an English team in European Cup history.

Three other sides have won six in a row: Manchester United (1965-66), Leeds United (1969-70) and Arsenal (2005).

You want some pre-match Man City-PSG meeting stats? Well alright then...

    • Manchester City are unbeaten in all four previous European meetings with PSG (W2 D2), winning their last home match against them in April 2016 in the second leg of that season's Champions League quarter-final.
    • PSG have only faced AC Milan (four times) more often without winning in the Champions League than they have against Man City (three).

In 2019, Pochettino's Tottenham travelled to City for a Champions League quarter-final and came away with a stunning away goals victory courtesy of one of the finest games the competition has witnessed.

Fernando Llorente's goal, bundled in from a corner and confirmed by VAR 17 minutes from time, gave Mauricio Pochettino's side victory.

If you need a reminder of it, you can read our report here.

Pochettino's Spurs came back to dramatically beat Ajax in the semis that year (heads up, City) but would lose that year's final to Liverpool, leaving the Argentine with his own Champions League itch to scratch.

    PSG are no mugs.

They reached the final last season, where they were beaten by a stellar Bayern Munich side.

So far in this European campaign, they've seen off Barcelona and Bayern.

Oh, and they've got some lad called Neymar too.

Just to stoke the fire a little more, their current boss is Mauricio Pochettino, who knows a thing or two about pulling off a Champions League shock at City...

Just diverting away from tonight's game for a second, can we all just take a moment to marvel at how good Jose Mourinho's agent is...

The 58-year-old will replace fellow Portuguese Paulo Fonseca as boss of Italian side Roma next season.

He was sacked by Spurs last month and has signed a three-year deal with the Serie A club.

Detective Superintendent Ian Buckells wishes he was that Teflon.
