Adam Salter: Everton have flattered to deceive for so long. Could this be the season when they finally perform? Looking good so far. Chance of pulling a Leicester?

Chijioke Izundu: This is how Leicester started out that season. We all thought they were joking until they won the league. Everton may just be the dark horse for the title.

Another change for Brighton as Steven Alzate is replaced by Pascal Gross with seven minutes remaining.

    Everton 4-1 Brighton

Adam Lallana's shot is deflected behind to give Brighton a corner but another consolation goal is the best the visitors can hope for now.

The first delivery is knocked behind and the second is played short before Yves Bissouma's cross to the far post is just over his team-mates' heads.

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea and Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Big hugs for James Rodriguez from Carlo Ancelotti but I think he'll be saying 'I fancied a hat-trick there!' Everton will be wanting to wrap him up in cotton wool. There are a lot of games happening and there will be lot expected of him. He's missed a lot of football, so little rests will probably be good.

Paul Collins: So Chris Lambo asks who's laughing now because people laughed at Ancelotti saying he would take Everton to the Champions League. So does that mean Everton have qualified already then? Oh that's right, no they haven't. It's only 4 games into the season.

Nathan Bright: I’m actually really enjoying Everton in the initial stages of this season. The free-flowing, attacking brand of football helps but there seems to be a healthy helping of joy around the place which is really infectious.

Calling it now... Everton are going to win the league, James Rodriguez is an unbelievably talented player and this game has further proved that, coming from an Arsenal fan it pains me to say that.

    Jack

Sometimes, a player joins the Premier League in the transfer window and you just know you have to have them in your fantasy football team. This year that man is James Rodriguez!

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea and Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

If you give James Rodriguez half a chance, he'll take it but I will say, I've been very impressed by Alex Iwobi this second half. Twice he's got into really dangerous areas this left-hand side and both times it has led to goals.

  10. 'The attacking football's been fantastic'published at 16:35 British Summer Time 3 October 2020

    Everton 4-1 Brighton

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on Final Score

Evertonians have every right to be excited about how things are going. The attacking football’s been fantastic, and James Rodriguez is at the heart of everything.

He’s been a terrific signing for Carlo Ancelotti.

Everton are once again happy to let Brighton potter about in the home side's half of the pitch. The Toffees are either confident in their own ability on the counter, or Brighton's lack of bite in the final third.

To be fair, that is a brilliant goal. Everton play it all the way from their own half. The passing between Iwobi - once again he was involved, Doucoure was involved as well but they were so calm going down that left-hand side and wait for it...James scores with his right foot!

Carlo Ancelotti gave Alex Iwobi a pep-talk before the start of the half and has kept chatting to the Everton winger throughout the second period. Whatever he is saying, it's working, as the former Arsenal player has been involved in both second-half goals since replacing Richarlison.

Everton on course to win their first four top-flight matches since 1969.

Alan Parks: Remember when TV introduced player-cam? That was made for James - you could watch him all day! He doesn’t even run!

Urban Bourbon: I never understood why Manchester United didn't go in for a quality manager like Ancelotti - experienced, refined, tactically astute, and a proven winner.

GOAL - Everton 4-1 Brightonpublished at 71 mins

    James Rodriguez

    That man again!

Everton counter quickly as Alex Iwobi finds Abdoulaye Doucoure and the midfielder clips the ball across goal where Brighton have inexplicably decided not to mark James Rodriguez again and the Colombian makes no mistake.

Just when Brighton were threatening to get back into this, Everton put it to bed with another excellent attacking display.

Brighton have no idea how to pick James Rodriguez up. He just develops space out of absolutely nowhere. When he gets the ball, he almost never gives it away and Brighton have just found no answer to him.

Pickford is the difference between Everton getting top 6 or not. The rest of the team is brilliant, he's the weak link.
