Palace got steamrollered a bit today. Against Everton there was a bit of a fight about them and they should have come out of that game with a point.

I thought they were a bit meek and mild.

  2. 'A good sign of things to come'published at 14:42 British Summer Time 3 October 2020

    Chelsea 4-0 Crystal Palace

    Chelsea

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "The first half was frustrating but we didn’t really create enough. At half time we spoke about being a bit more creative and taking a few more chances in the final third and we came out sharp in the second half and scored four very good goals.

"It’s the same for all team but there’s not really been a pre-season it’s going to take a few weeks for everyone to bed in and in the second half today I think we showed that it is starting to gel together nicely.

"I spoke to the manager before I came and also saw the talent he had brought in and it was just a very exciting opportunity for me to come to a team that everyone thinks should be winning trophies.

"The biggest plus from today - scoring a four goals is great but a clean sheet is perfect for us going into the international break. It’s a good sign of things to come."

On Thiago Silva: "Ever since he came in the building, when he is in the room he has a presence about him. He makes everyone want to do well. Standards will never slip, he demands quality and he assures the whole."

  3. 'Emphatic response from Chelsea'published at 14:39 British Summer Time 3 October 2020

    Chelsea 4-0 Crystal Palace

    Garth Crooks
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker on Final Score

Certainly today I thought it was quite an emphatic response from Chelsea. Mendy kept a clean sheet on his league debut. Chilwell’s goal was terrific.

What was really telling was Tammy Abraham’s spat with Werner about the penalty. Abraham needs to be on the scoresheet, that’s the only way he’s going to survive.

  4. 'Calvert-Lewin a first-team striker'published at 14:37 British Summer Time 3 October 2020

    Everton v Brighton (15:00 BST)

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

When Duncan Ferguson took over for that short time, that was the moment Dominic Calvert-Lewin became a first-team striker. Duncan said to him ‘we’ve worked together for the past however many months, you’re now my number nine, I’m going to give you the support and I’m going to rely on you to score the goals’.

Calvert-Lewin seemed to like the reliance on his shoulders and you started to see him become a player. Since then, Carlo Ancelotti has taken him to another level.

He’s brought in little subtle tweaks to his game, most notable he said he wants more one-touch finishes from him. When you watch Calvert-Lewin of late, he still has the ability to run down the channels, still holds the ball up really well but his chances are the chances Ancelotti asked him to finish.

  5. 'We showed our hunger'published at 14:34 British Summer Time 3 October 2020

    Chelsea 4-0 Crystal Palace

    Chelsea

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell, speaking to BT Sport: "It was a brilliant team performance, and I'm obviously very happy with my personal performance. We kept a clean sheet, which was important for us, and scored four great goals as a team. We showed our hunger to press for the whole 90 minutes.

"In the first half we were patient but maybe didn't take enough risks in the final third. The gaffer said at half-time we need to be more creative in the final third, and in the second half we showed that.

"I’ve heard the Premier League's a lot different to other leagues, so it’s going to take the new signings time to adjust. Everyone worked hard today and they’re starting to gel.

"The reason we've all come here is because we feel the team can win stuff. We just need to keep working hard and producing performances like today."

  6. How important is Allan to Everton?published at 14:30 British Summer Time 3 October 2020

    Everton v Brighton (15:00 BST)

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport at Goodison Park

As the rain pours down at Goodison, today will be a good gauge of how much Everton have relied on Allan since he joined the club for £21m last month.

The headlines so far this season have been all about James Rodriguez and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but Allan has been just as important in providing Everton's defence with a protective shield.

Will it be more exposed with Tom Davies and Gylfi Sigurdsson in the heart of midfield? We shall see.

Aamer Iqbal: Chelsea are a brilliant watch for neutrals at the moment. Loads of goals flying in, often for the opposition. Great drama.

Simon Atkins: Teams have designated penalty takers for a reason. If Jorginho is on the pitch, he is taking it. Why do the other players, who know this, insist on bickering like children over something already decided?

Gbadero Toluwalope: Timo Werner not likely to be a valid contender for the golden boot with penalty duties not on him. One would feel Jorginho should've left a penalty like the second one.

Paul Malecki: Azpilicueta acting like a proper captain there. Took the ball off Tammy and gave it to Jorginho who is the designated penalty taker. You love to see it.

When will players ever learn - never try to tackle in the penalty box, it is now a "no contact" area. That football has come this - a laughable spectacle, such a shame.

    Alan Seaton

If a big club loses even one match nowadays, it is seen as a crisis, which is nonsensical. Every team is beatable, so losing one match does not mean you have no hope of still doing well.

Chelsea's confidence on the ball is high now as they zip the ball around the pitch. A good, dominant win for the Blues and much needed after an inconsistent start.

Deldude: Can someone tell me why Tammy Abraham is furious? He missed a lot of chances to score. The last one being the pin-point cross from Hudson Odoi. He should learn to score and worry less about penalties.

This hasn't been a good performance from Crystal Palace after all the talk of their improved finishing.

Having said that, their finishing probably has improved but their tactics today hasn't given Palace a chance to create chances.

They are four minutes away from finishing the game without a shot on target.

Jorginho sends it the same way, Guaita dives the same way - the wrong way! Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner had a proper little argument over the spot kick but bottom line is: Jorginho is brilliant at taking penalties!

Jorginho's penalties are the worst for goalkeepers. To watch him and stand and wait and you know that's he's watching you, then you have to decided where to go and when to go - it's so difficult!

Double change for Chelsea to see how these final few minutes as Callum Hudson-Odoi and N'Golo Kante are replaced by Christian Pulisic and Mateo Kovacic for Chelsa.
