Pundits' curse - Joe Gomez shanks a pass straight to Tyler Roberts on the halfway line. England having a poor spell.

  2. 'Wales should target Gomez'published at 20:18 British Summer Time 8 October 2020

    England 0-0 Wales

    Danny Gabbidon
Former Wales defender on BBC Radio Wales

We saw how much Joe Gomez struggled for Liverpool against Aston Villa on the weekend, and he was taken off.

So if I'm Kieffer Moore I'm getting on to him, wanting the ball all the time.

    England 0-0 Wales

Kieffer Moore is always going to win those - he's head and shoulders clear of the England defence but heads for a team-mate instead of goal and it's gobbled up.

  4. 'England not quite getting it right'published at 20:17 British Summer Time 8 October 2020

    England 0-0 Wales

    Rob Green
Former West Ham and England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

England need to sort out the front line in a defensive way because when Wales have got the ball they have so much time. Ethan Ampadu is not getting the ball at the moment and he's the pivot in the Wales midfield but he is pulling away from one or more of the England forwards so they need to sort out who is going to mark him and who is going to go up and press - because at the moment they're not quite getting it right.

    England 0-0 Wales

Decent attack from Wales down their left but Ben Davies is unable to scoop in a cross on the stretch.

  6. 'Wales have started brilliantly'published at 20:15 British Summer Time 8 October 2020

    England 0-0 Wales

    Joe Ledley
Former Wales midfielder on BBC Radio Wales

I was just going to say how well Wales have defended - before that chance for Calvert-Lewin.

I'm surprised England have dropped so deep and let us play.

    Wales have started brilliantly.

  7. 'Good opportunity for Matondo'published at 20:13 British Summer Time 8 October 2020

    England 0-0 Wales

    Danny Gabbidon
Former Wales defender on BBC Radio Wales

It's a good opportunity for Rabbi Matondo tonight to show what he's all about.

He's got a lot of pace so hopefully Wales can get the ball in behind England's defence for him to show that.

  8. Postpublished at 12 mins

    England 0-0 Wales

He's warming up - DCL gets in behind the Wales defence and is able to go around keeper Wayne Hennessey - but he's driven well wide and can't get an effort on target, it's easily dealt with.

  9. Scrappy start at Wembleypublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 8 October 2020

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Wembley

England and Wales indulging in some sparring and one or two passes going astray - but some nice early contributions from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with some nice footwork down by the touchline and a couple of decent flicks.

    Otherwise a bit messy.

  10. Postpublished at 12 mins

    England 0-0 Wales

No real highlights to speak of yet as Dominic Calvert-Lewin is close to meeting a cracking ball over the top from Joe Gomez. Nearly.

  11. Defences to dominate?published at 20:10 British Summer Time 8 October 2020

    England 0-0 Wales

    Dafydd Pritchard
    BBC Sport Wales

It might be some time before we see a goal tonight.

It's almost a year since England last conceded a goal, against the Czech Republic on 11 October 2019.

Since then, Gareth Southgate's men have played 455 minutes without conceding.

Wales, meanwhile, have gone 441 minutes without being breached. That was against Croatia on 13 October 2019.

Rabbi Matondo leads Wales forwards with a mazy run, showing his agility but it leads to nothing. A pretty forgettable opening 10.

    England 0-0 Wales

England clear the corner away easily enough as we learn that this is the first time Nick Pope has played at Wembley. Not quite the way he would have dreamed it.

Andy: Footballers are a tuneful lot!

Ric: possibly the worst singing of the respective national anthems ever

Ryan: Wow I miss the fans only so I don't have to hear the @England, external players singing

Andrew: Singing lessons for both teams please. Anthems were woeful

Some harsh words there for the vocals on display at Wembley.

I wonder where Bukayo Saka will end up playing? He's been on the right wing for Arsenal at times this season as he makes his England debut at left wing-back. Versatile youngster.

    England v Wales (20:00 BST)

It's been 11 long months since England played at Wembley and sadly we have lost some greats in that time. They are remembered before kick-off.

2020 can do one quite frankly.
