I'll go for the draw. 1-1. Wales have to perform in a number of areas.

Defensively, we have to play how we have been in recent games, very organised, disciplined.

We'll have to impose ourselves on the opposition as well - getting the ball up to Kieffer Moore and using the wide players' pace.

Mark: Cannot see this as a 0-0, with all this inexperience and lack of time together I am going for 2-2 or 3-2 England. Second half subs will hold the key

Richard: No Bale, Ramsey, Hal, Brooks...plenty of chances for others tonight. Go out and prove a point lads!

John: Loving the English front line! We actually picked 3 in-form players! Goals!!!!!

England boss Gareth Southgate, speaking to ITV: "Every team and every business is going through so much uncertainty. You need to be more adaptable than ever. Not one we wanted (the players missing after breaking Covid protocol) but it has not affected us.

"It is not ideal for the new players in that you want new caps to go in with experience around them. But they are not novices. With the three games we have it is the best way to manage the fixtures."

On the debutants: "They need to do the same as they have with their clubs. They are in because of that and they are in positions to recreate those roles. They won't be perfect but if mistakes happen it is how they react."

In Jack Grealish: "He has his opportunity because he has been playing well. We want him in areas of the pitch where he can hurt the opposition."

I didn't want them in the group. I just wanted to get on with our own adventure.

When we drew them, all the hype in the media and stuff didn't really help.

In the game we dealt with them pretty well until those late goals.

There's nothing better than playing England in a local derby and hopefully tonight we'll see the players get stuck in, put some challenges in.

The spotlight will inevitably fall on England new boys Bukayo Saka and Dominic Calvert-Lewin but there is plenty at stake for others in Gareth Southgate's side.

Burnley keeper Nick Pope can increase the pressure on out-of-form Everton keeper Jordan Pickford, although the latter is still first choice on the basis he has never let England down.

Jack Grealish will also be keen to make a big impact and delight his many supporters on his full England debut.

Southampton's Danny Ings in another who will hope to transform superb club form to the international stage.

  10. 'A barometer for us'published at 19:38 British Summer Time 8 October 2020

Wales manager Ryan Giggs on ITV: "It is a barometer for us, the concentration needs to be good and we will see where we are against a good team.

"It's difficult for us at Wembley but we're on a good run and we have momentum. I'm looking for the players who have come in to impress."

This the first time the two nations have played each other since Euro 2016 in France - where England ran out 2-1 winners.

But can you remember the starting XIs for both teams in that match?

You have six minutes to name all 22 players based on their club career (excluding loan moves) and the number of international caps they currently have. Good luck!

Kieffer Moore is a bit of a throwback.

You don't get big strikers like that in the Premier League anymore, so it's going to be interesting to see how England's back three cope with him.

Going for a 0-0. I can't see the game having any rhythm given the lack of both experience and chemistry.

Nick Pope's form from last season means he has earned the chance to start. He's been steady, Burnley are struggling a bit so far this season but it's a real opportunity for him.

Gareth Southgate is always good at getting players in when they're flying and on form and Dominic Calvert-Lewin is certainly that. He's hit the ground running this season and everything he touches turns to goals at the moment. From an England perspective you hope that continues because you love your strikers to be in form.

Danny Ings is in and as is Jack Grealish so there's some really exciting attacking options for England.

Jack: I am quite intrigued by this England lineup in #ENGWAL, external but why on earth are we having a friendly 3 days before an international double header? A club manager's nightmare

Reindeer: Looks a really weak Wales side to me. The thought of Grealish providing someone of Ings' talent & the in-form Calvert-Lewin is, quite frankly, scary. England should win this at a canter but I suppose it depends on how subs & how seriously the players take it.

Why does Southgate rate Trippier so much? He has the best right back in the Premier league in Alexander Arnold but he never seems to get a game.

    Dean

Mings over Gomez if we're going on form as well as experimentation, surely? Fairly certain the last match they played would evidence that...

Tammy Abraham, Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho miss out tonight and could also be absent for Sunday's game with Belgium after breaking coronavirus rules, manager Gareth Southgate says.

Their inclusion in the squad for Sunday's Nations League fixture depends on the outcome of coronavirus tests.

The three were among a group of more than six people at a surprise 23rd birthday party for Chelsea forward Abraham, and all have since apologised for breaching protocol.

"We just have to make sure to protect the whole group, that is key," said Southgate. "The timelines on the incubation period are really complex and we have to manage that as best we can."

Scotland's task of progressing past Israel at Hampden Park has been made even more difficult by the absence of three players because of Covid-19.

After tonight, we could be looking forward to a potential Northern Ireland-Republic of Ireland play-off final - which would be at Belfast's Windsor Park - although they both have to get through tricky away games before they worry about that.

Northern Ireland travel to Bosnia while the Republic visit Slovakia and victories for both in tonight's one-legged ties would set up a mouth-watering all-Ireland showdown for Euro 2020 qualification.

  20. Giggs puts his trust in youth againpublished at 19:04 British Summer Time 8 October 2020

    England v Wales (20:00 BST)

    Dafydd Pritchard
    BBC Sport Wales

There are two names conspicuous by their absence from that Wales team: Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey.

It’s not often those two are both missing. In fact, you have to go back to a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago in March 2019 for the last time Wales were without Bale and Ramsey.

So who will Ryan Giggs be expecting to provide moments of inspiration in the absence of two pivotal players?

Well, this is a young and inexperienced team. The two players occupying the attacking positions where you would expect to find Bale and Ramsey – Rabbi Matondo and Tyler Roberts – have just 11 caps between them.

This is a first start for Schalke’s 20-year-old winger Matondo, while Leeds forward Roberts, 21, makes only a third international start and his first since 2018.

Giggs has handed debuts to 18 players in his 21 matches as Wales manager so far, and he is placing his trust in youth once again.
