More from Gareth Southgate: "The penalty gave us a foothold and our second half performance was so compact without the ball. In these games, you can’t just play with the ball. Against the very best, the detail of how you defend has to be bang on."
On quietening Romelu Lukaku after half time: "We were getting caught in transition and he was getting balls played straight into him. We shouldn’t have got caught on the penalty. We should have been positionally better. But to ride that storm and to respond how we did was really impressive."
On the future: "We’ve got loads that we can get better on. We’re not carried away by this win and need to back it up against Denmark. The quality of our opponent is what we aspire to on a consistent basis."

The players will know that the performance wasn't perfect and individually at times that they weren't great but they'll have a little look round the changing room and have a wry smile on their face because they've beaten the world number one team.
If we'd lost tonight we'd have been moaning about it, but it still would have been the same performance. It's not about that, it's about getting that win. It's as simple as that.

Gareth Southgate speaking to Sky Sports: “It was a top level game. We had a lot of young players there for whom that was a really great experience.
"Belgium are a top side and we knew the questions they would ask us down the sides. In the first half, they overloaded us in wide areas and they caused us problems.
"We had to see that spell through and we had the resilience to do that.
"You have to suffer to win these big games and the players did that."

You can only beat what is in front of you, and England got over the line. Sometimes getting over the line is the hardest thing to do in football, you can play all the lovely football you want, but getting over the line and getting the three points makes it a good day. It's as simple as that.
At times the performance wasn't great, and I said before the game that it was a conservative team but there's so many ways to skin a cat. Whether you think it's safe or conservative it got the job done at the end of the day. Gareth Southgate got his team and tactics exactly right today.
I think Kyle Walker is the 61st player to reach 50 caps for England.

England's Kyle Walker, who made his 50th appearance for the national side, talking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "It's a proud moment. It's a great achievement to get 50 caps, not many players have done that. A big pat on the back for myself, but also thank you to all of the managers and coaching staff that have helped me throughout my career.
"We defended well and stuck in and I think that's what you've got to do against top teams. They caused us problems in the first half but Gareth gave a great team talk at half-time and we've gone out and gave a good performance to get us a victory.
"I have good memories of playing on the right side of a back three. We'd have loved to have gone on and won it [the World Cup] but we set the foundations for what this team can achieve. There is competition for places in all positions so just to get a start, wherever I'm chosen to start, is good for me."

England matchwinner Mason Mount on BBC Radio 5 Live: "I think you might be good luck for me because the last time we spoke was after I scored my first England goal in Kosovo. It's been a crazy time since then, playing at Wembley and scoring against the number one ranked side and getting three points is massive for us. It means so much.
"We know what we can do. We know what players we've got in this group, that can perform, especially in these big games. We want to win these games and keep improving and pushing to win things together and I think we're on the right path.
"It probably wasn't going to go in, but I'll take that every day. It means so much to me. Every opportunity to play for your country is massive, all of the boys are so behind each other. We're such a group, such a family and we keep pushing. We're all on the same path to win things together. We can get better and we can get better, we know that. Everybody wants to work hard for each other."

England captain Jordan Henderson on BBC Radio 5 Live: "It was very nice to get back out there, playing for England. It was nice to play again after a while. It was a good game to come into, Belgium are a very good side. We've got to be delighted with the performance level and getting the three points.
"We managed the game very well, particularly second half. I thought we were a lot stronger and created one or two chances which I think we could have scored from and defended well overall. We know with the players that they've got that they are going to create problems, but I think we kept that to a minimum and managed to get the points which is important.
"He wasn't sure it was a penalty, but I was pretty sure it was. I was in front of him and he pulled back on my shoulder. After that we grew in confidence in the game, after speaking about a couple of things tactically at half-time.
"We want to compete with the very best teams, and Belgium are certainly that. We competed very well and that's what we want to do, keep competing and growing and you never know where that may take us."

Northern Ireland v Austria (19:45 BST)
With this being the second game in a triple header for Northern Ireland there's no surprise to see a few changes - five to be exact.
In come Michael McGovern, Jordan Jones, Conor McLaughlin, Gavin Whyte and Kyle Lafferty for the hosts. Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Corry Evans, Josh Magennis, George Saville and Niall McGinn are the players to drop out of the side.
A possible boost for Northern Ireland is that there is no Marko Arnautovic in the Austria XI, although Bayern Munich man David Alaba is back in the side after missing the friendly win against Greece in midweek with a muscle issue.

At the end of the day if you're playing the number one ranked side in the world, and you know you haven't played well, but come away with a 2-1 win that is the best feeling as a player.
The times where you didn't play well but came away with a win are worth their weight in gold. That adds so much momentum to the team going forward.

So what do you make of the penalty decision Jordan?
Jordan Henderson, grinning, talking to Sky Sports: "I got in front of my man and I felt him pull me back on my shoulder. I felt it was a penalty!"
England 2-1 Belgium
England have beaten Belgium in a competitive fixture for just the second time (D2 L2), with the only previous such win coming at the 1990 World Cup.

Gareth Southgate will have learnt a lot from the game against Wales and today. But it's the belief, they've beaten the number one ranked side in the world.
In terms of development there's a lot of ticks for Gareth and the players.

England matchwinner Mason Mount speaking to Sky Sports: "It's a special achievement to score my first goal at Wembley, I found myself in a bit of space and had only one thing on my mind. It took a really big deflection but it doesn’t matter how they go in. I'll take it."
On the second half performance: "We were hanging in there at half time, at 1-1. But we knew we could regroup and fix the problems we were having.
"We tried to stay higher and win the ball back as quickly as we could. We didn't want them having a lot of the ball in our half. So we tried to keep the ball better and create chances. We had a couple of chances and it worked."

Top 4 in the World Cup, top 3 in the League of Nations and just beat the best team in the world. Eat it, haters.

Scotland v Slovakia (19:45 BST)
As expected, Scotland boss Steve Clarke switches things up a bit with the games coming thick and fast.
There is a first cap for Aberdeen defender Andrew Considine, called up on Friday, while John Fleck, Kenny McLean and Ryan Fraser come into the starting line-up.
The near bionic Callum McGregor gets a rest, along with Ryan Jack and Oli McBurnie, with those three dropping to the bench, while Liam Cooper may have picked up an injury since he is not listed among the replacements.

You're not going to be able to be your best all the time.
When you're still a developing side, which England see themselves as, it's about finding a way to win when you're not at your sparkling best. It's a penalty and a deflected goal but you've got to get yourself in the right place at the right time, and defend well.
