    Hmmm...

It seems to me that Southgate hasn't really got a clue. Is it possible it was the waistcoat all along making the calls at the World Cup?

England's only shot on target so far was the goal.

You'd put your money on Yannick Carrasco scoring from there, it was a great opportunity. He dragged it horribly wide but the pressure from Kieran Trippier just made the difference.

You'd have put your house on him making a good connection from there.

Luke: Expecting to build attacks with Maguire, Henderson, Rice, Dier et al is naive at best. We can't keep relying on being bailed out by set pieces

Kyle: Brilliant penalty. Will that shut some whingers up. England level against the world's number 1 ranked side. As much as they have been on top they haven't created that many chances. Game on

  7. CLOSE!published at 43 mins

    England 1-1 Belgium

What a chance! Romelu Lukaku does brilliantly to backheel into the path of Yannick Carrasco who is beyond the England backline but scuffs his shot horribly across goal. Totally duffed it.

    England 1-1 Belgium

Marcus Rashford is the fourth Manchester United player to score in four consecutive competitive appearances for England, after Bobby Charlton, David Beckham and Wayne Rooney (x2).

    England 1-1 Belgium

    Rob Green
Former West Ham and England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

The referee was in a prime position and couldn't really miss it.

There were no nerves whatsoever from Marcus Rashford. He just blazed it in. England were just starting to get a foothold in the game and the pressure told.

You could file that penalty award under 'soft' but there was a pull on the shoulder of Jordan Henderson. England will be delighted to go in level if they can.

    England 0-1 Belgium

The old Panama/Tunisia routine as Jordan Henderson is pulled back while attacking that corner and it's a spot-kick!

    England 0-1 Belgium

Marcus Rashford tries that Ronaldinho flip flap which doesn't come off but he does win another corner, Harry Maguire up for it, another corner.

England to score from a set-piece?

  14. Postpublished at 35 mins

    England 0-1 Belgium

It may be a low bar but that is better from England as they play an early ball up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and he wins a corner.

Belguim counter though, Jordan Henderson does well to get in Kevin de Bruyne's face and win it back.

Here are the two touch maps from each side's three forward players.

England on the left with Mason Mount, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Marcus Rashford. Belgium on the right with Kevin de Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Yannick Carrasco.

The areas that the Belgium front three are touching the ball gives you a good indication of how this game has gone so far.

John: If this is England’s best team even with the unavailable ones, I would be very surprised. I would definitely prefer the supporters' line up shown pre-game

Just Adam: The sad thing is we have the players in England to go toe to toe with teams like Belgium, we have pace, power and creativity, as well as goal threat. Problem is none of that is on the pitch...

Jimmy: United got rid of lukaku because he's a classic flat track bully. Scores against dross but rarely against quality. Hence why he's scored today!

Ah yes, the England football team. Having looked forward to the game all day my 9 year old is now watching Peppa Pig with his sister.

What's the point of picking in-form players in a squad if you're not going to play them? The cliche "never let England down" is irrelevant.

    David in Pinchbeck

England drop to a back 5 too readily when they lose possession. If we're playing 3-4-3 then let's play it. Always an open Belgium midfielder defending like this.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 32 mins

    England 0-1 Belgium

England do have some steady build-up play but all they can muster is Jordan Henderson floating a cross that is too high for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Declan Rice then comes through the back of Axel Witsel and goes into the book, despite his claims that he won the ball.

BBC Sport chief football writer at Wembley

England's starting line-up had a conservative look about it and so it has proved as they are struggling to create anything.
