So early in the season, I thought this Everton hype was ridiculous. Tired James, no Richarlison and an injured Coleman (who is inspirational) and they look like a mid table side again!

    James, Fulham

Danny Ings is like a fine wine. Getting better with age. Hes been very good for the last year and looks like he'll get better. Everton fans back to reality I'm afraid.

  2. 'It took so long for the offside decision to come'published at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 25 October 2020

    Southampton 2-0 Everton

It's a joke this new rule, just put your flag up. Stuart Armstrong is already celebrating. He was a yard offside so it was the right decision but it just took so long for that decision to come. Imagine if the stadium is full, everyone would be cheering and jumping around and then 20 seconds later he decides to put his flag up. How does that make fans feel or players, it takes the joy away.

    Southampton 2-0 Everton

Gylfi Sigurdsson's corner isn't quite met by Yerry Mina but James Rodriguez will pick it up.

He drives towards the byline but is shoved off it by Che Adams. He's appealing for a penalty but it looked like good defending. Kevin Friend agrees. Not too many appeals from elsewhere.

  4. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 40 mins

    Southampton 2-0 Everton

Stuart Armstrong absolutely smashes it in. It's a cracking goal but it won't count. Che Adams was just offside in the build up.

It's a late flag. Armstrong has already started celebrating and the music is going off before he realises it's been ruled out.

    Southampton 2-0 Everton

Alex Iwobi tries to combine with Lucas Digne - who has been very quiet so far. Kyle Walker-Peters reads it and slides in to intercept.

Digne's cross is then hooked away by Jannik Vestergaard.

This is more like the Everton I know...

Bet some Everton fans wish that Pickford was suspended for this game...and the other twenty odd for the rest of the season.

Very good first half from Southampton so far. They haven't put a foot wrong. They are playing some nice football this season and I'm enjoying watching them.

  8. 'Southampton play with such high intensity'published at 14:37 Greenwich Mean Time 25 October 2020

    Southampton 2-0 Everton

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

The difference between the two sides is intensity. Southampton have got an intensity in and out of possession. When they have the ball it's quick it's sharp. When they haven't got the ball they hunt and get back in shape really quickly. That German philosophy of trying to win it back and get up the pitch as quick and aggressive as possible.

  9. goal

GOAL - Southampton 2-0 Evertonpublished at 35 mins

    Che Adams

Danny Ings does really well, driving past Ben Godfrey and Yerry Mina on the left. He lifts it into the middle and James Ward-Prowse leaves it for Che Adams.

He takes his time and it looks like the opportunity has gone but he strikes it with so much pace.

It takes a little deflection too and Jordan Pickford is beaten again.

    Southampton 1-0 Everton

Yerry Mina gets a word in his ear by Kevin Friend. Not sure why. Mina is shrugging his shoulders too.

Again, Southampton play it nicely around the defence in the left corner but Danny Ings' flicked pass it hooked out for a throw-in.

  11. 'It's been building for Southampton'published at 14:33 Greenwich Mean Time 25 October 2020

    Southampton 1-0 Everton

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's been building, Southampton have been the better side in this opening 25 minutes. It came from a throw-in, James Ward-Prowse just picks it up and no one is really marking him. He flicks it round to Danny Ings who slides him in and he's in 10-yards out and he smashes it in the bottom corner. It's really poor defending from Everton. I think Jordan Pickford possibly could've done better, there was a lot of pace in it. I know people will be picking on Pickford but I think he could've done better.

    Southampton 1-0 Everton

Nathan Redmond gets past Ben Godfrey on the left and chips it towards the back post. Neither Che Adams or Danny Ings gamble to get there.

Alex Iwobi will bring it away on the far side.

  14. goal

GOAL - Southampton 1-0 Evertonpublished at 27 mins

    James Ward-Prowse

    Brilliant finish!

It all comes from a throw-in on the right. James Ward-Prowse turns and flicks it into Danny Ings' path.

He holds it, waiting for Ward-Prowse to run in behind, before slipping it through.

Ward-Prowse takes one touch and smashes it into the far corner, past Jordan Pickford who had just denied Oriol Romeu.

    Southampton 0-0 Everton

Kyle Walker-Peters does well to shrug off Gylfi Sigurdsson on the right and earns a free-kick.

Southampton are starting to get a hold of things now... Oriol Romeu is teed up by Ryan Bertrand on the edge of the box and he forces a smart save from Jordan Pickford.

    Southampton 0-0 Everton

Southampton have a spell of possession. James Ward-Prowse initially had options in front of him but he opted to play it back and keep hold of the ball.

Danny Ings and Che Adams link-up nicely on the edge of the box and it's pulled over to the left side.

When it comes in from Ryan Betrand, it's a decent chance for Stuart Armstrong but he swipes the air. He was unmarked!

    Southampton 0-0 Everton

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

That was one hell of a hit from Gylfi Sigurdsson. It kind of bounced up for a little bit of a volley and you thought uh-oh as soon as he makes connection with this, he's that technically good, he absolutely smashes it from 20-yards out. The keeper would've had no chance but it just clipped the top of the crossbar. Brilliant shot from Sigurdsson.

  18. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 20 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Everton

    That's what he can do!

Gylfi Sigurdsson finds space in the middle, tees himself up and has a go from about 20 yards out.

He hits it perfectly and it's swerving all the way as it crashes off the crossbar, with Alex McCarthy well beaten.

  19. Postpublished at 18 mins

Ben Godfrey is having a busy afternoon. Again, it's Nathan Redmond and Ryan Bertrand linking up down the left for Southampton but the full-back's cross is skewed into the side-netting.
