Some really good football being played. Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti shouts "goooood" from the touchline as Allan dictates play, moving the ball through the middle and linking up in triangles with his teammates.

It eventually gets to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and he's caught outside the box. Free-kick. James Rodriguez is eyeing it up.

James Rodriguez is bright, he's lively, he keeps the momentum going. That's where he's probably a class above everybody else because he sees things before they happen. "Let's do a short corner" or "lets do a two-v-one" - he's such a talent he needs to get on the ball more and more.

    Southampton 0-0 Everton

Everton respond as Alex Iwobi goes up the other end and has a shot saved by Alex McCarthy from a tight angle.

    This is a good game!

  4. CLOSE!published at 13 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Everton

Lovely move! Southampton tear Everton apart with one quick move. Jannik Vestergaard finds Danny Ings in the middle.

He slips it left to the overlapping Ryan Bertrand. He has Che Adams waiting in the middle but picks out Nathan Redmond instead.

Unmarked Redmond hits it first time and it's inches past the right post - Adams close to getting on the end of it.

    Southampton 0-0 Everton

Ben Godfrey tries to pick out Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the box but it's just behind him. Everton are fortunate though, as it takes a nick off Jannik Vestergaard and falls for Alex Iwobi.

He drills it in, looking for Calvert-Lewin at the near post, but Vestergaard recovers well to get an important touch on it.

    The game's all about opinions...

Kevin Taylor: Really nice kit being worn by Everton today but have to say, shouldn’t be wearing it! Clubs should be made to wear first choice kit unless there is a genuine colour clash

That Everton kit is horrific. Best left in the 80s.

    Southampton 0-0 Everton

Ben Godfrey gets the better of Nathan Redmond and James Rodriguez comes back to help out.

Southampton eventually win the throw-in but Ryan Bertrand's cross will fly over everyone's head in the box.

Nice and competitive early-on but neither team taking charge yet.

  8. 'Pickford low on confidence'published at 14:07 Greenwich Mean Time 25 October 2020

    Southampton 0-0 Everton

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Jordan Pickford is probably low on confidence after the week he's had - he just wants an easy game being protected by Yerry Mina and Michael Keane. Carlo Ancelotti will have told them to protect the goalkeeper today, make it easy and don't put him under unnecessary pressure. It doesn't help when you give fouls and set plays away and that's what Ancelotti will have said, don't give away needless set-plays.

    Southampton 0-0 Everton

James Rodriguez holds the ball up initially but goes one too many and loses possession.

Abdoulaye Doucoure wins it back and links up with Alex Iwobi but it ends up comfortably in the hands of Alex McCarthy.

    Southampton 0-0 Everton

Allan is hurried by Southampton's press but he does well to spin and feed it through to Gylfi Sigurdsson.

He lays it off to Michael Keane, who plays a lovely ball over the top for Alex Iwobi on the left but it skips away unkindly at the last minute.

  11. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Everton

James Ward-Prowse swings a free-kick in from the left - always a threat from dead ball situations.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin gets a shout from teammate Michael Keane and leaves it, allowing the defender to nod it out for a corner.

There's then a push in the box and Everton have a free-kick.

  16. 'It was a difficult decision'published at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 25 October 2020

    Southampton v Everton (14:00 GMT)

    Everton

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti speaking to Sky Sports:

On James Rodriguez: "Yeah he's okay. He recovered well. He didn't train a lot this week but he is in good condition and can support the team in this game.

On Gylfi Sigurdsson starting ahead of Andre Gomes: "I think it was a difficult decision. Gomes did well but Sigurdsson trained well and his attitude - he deserved to change. It is a little change but it can help the team. It will not be an easy game. They will play with a lot of intensity.

On Jordan Pickford: "As usual, as usual. He is a good keeper. He has confidence so no problem."

On good start to the season: "There are a lot of reasons not just one. We had some good signings which have helped the team, we have more confidence to play, ambition that we want to have and it's a difficult competition, the Premier League. We are pleased that we have started well but now we have to move forward and look game by game to do our best."

  17. ''We have a chance to win every game'published at 13:51 Greenwich Mean Time 25 October 2020

    Southampton v Everton (14:00 GMT)

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl speaking to Sky Sports:

On good form in last year: "I think we had a very intense time together since I am here. We had a lot of ups and downs last year.

"In the last two or three months it could be a little bit more stable with our performances on a higher level. It would be a coincidence if, after all the work we put in, that didn't happen. So we are still not as far as our development as we think we could be. There are still things to improve.

"But the team shows that they like to work and like to learn. When we do what we want to do and do it good, then we have a chance to win every game."

On Everton: "Perfect test for us. it is against a strong side. They did a fantastic job in the first few games and it is not a coincedence that they are top at the moment. That doesn't tell you everything but it's not bad if you are top after five games. A strong start.

"We have to have a very good game today - we know this - but we have a chance to do it."

    Everton

Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure, speaking to Sky Sports: "It will be a tough game because Southampton are a tough team. There will be a big battle in midfield and it is important we are first to the ball. We want to stay top of the table."

Asked if all the added attention on keeper Jordan Pickford has acted as motivation for the team, Doucoure added: "Not really. We know Jordan is a good guy. He is great keeper as well and hopefully he is going to show again how great he is."
