City continue to put the pressure on.

Kyle Walker charges forward and finds De Bruyne in behind the Blades defence on the right, but his low ball is cut out.

A minute later, Torres goes a fraction early and is caught offside after initially appearing to be in.

Somehow, the game is still 0-0.

Raheem Sterling is free again on the left side of box and sends over a low cross for Ferran Torres, whose touch takes the ball goalwards but fails to find it thanks to a superb block from Ramsdale.

Soon after, Mahrez fires over from deep in the box.

    One-way traffic.

It is pretty grim out there now. If I was a dinner lady I'd be calling them all in.

My CM97-98 memory is adding a second manager before each game, taking over the opposition and making all their outfield players play on the wing. 10 year old me thought he was a genius as he smashed every team 20-0.

I remember signing Edgar Davids for Spurs, then becoming convinced he actually played for Spurs in real life. Then of course, a few years later Davids did sign for Spurs in real life, leading to total confusion as to the exact nature of reality. The power of CM.

Sheffield United's first real attack of note is enabled by a poor City clearance that sees Max Lowe take on Kyle Walker and play a low ball into the middle that is hacked clear.

    Good chance.

Kevin de Bruyne delivers a bouncing corner that finds Aymeric Laporte 10 yards out but with a swinging leg he can only fire it wide. Should have done better.

  9. Postpublished at 12 mins

City continue to dominate the ball. They work it one way and then the other across the edge of the Blades box before Raheem Sterling is freed down the left for a cut-back that is blocked behind.

And there it is. A cross into the middle finds Ferran Torres in the box. His glancing header is on target but too close to Aaron Ramsdale, who palms it away.

It's only a few games into the season and Sheffield United haven't found their rhythm. I do feel teams are more familiar with them, they know what they're up against. They're not an unknown quantity. Performances have been OK, they haven't been poor. They've just been unlucky.

With the best will in the world, Ferran Torres is not going to reach a Riyad Mahrez pass in behind that is a good 20 yards ahead of him and bounces rapidly out of play. We'll call it a sighter.

Chris Wilder is more than the right man for the job. They’ve been on the wrong side of draws or losses that could have gone either way.

It’s going to take time, but today’s a good start because they’ve got some massive games coming up.

    Alex Scott
Former England and Arsenal defender on Football Focus

Sheffield United need something to ignite their season, but the games are coming so thick and fast.

Last season they’d hit teams on the counter-attack and get a goal here and there. This season they’re retreating further and finding it hard to get the ball.

It’s about changing certain things and getting hold of the ball a little bit, which is obviously hard against Manchester City.

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's terrible news that another one of our giants has sadly passed away. His record, his winning the World Cup and helping England to do that was just incredible. Such a sad day for football.

On his work with former footballers suffering from dementia:

We'd spoken to his family. They were pretty angry in terms of a lack of answers. The research has started - there's about six months left of funding... There's too many families need those answers, that are being left alone. There's still a lot of work to be done.
