Soon after, Mahrez fires over from deep in the box.

Rodri tests Ramsdale with a dipping, swerving shot that prompts the keeper to palm behind. This rain is starting to make an impact.

The resulting corner is swung in by Mahrez but cleared by the Blades.

Sheffield United's first real attack of note is enabled by a poor City clearance that sees Max Lowe take on Kyle Walker and play a low ball into the middle that is hacked clear.

Kevin de Bruyne delivers a bouncing corner that finds Aymeric Laporte 10 yards out but with a swinging leg he can only fire it wide. Should have done better.

City continue to dominate the ball. They work it one way and then the other across the edge of the Blades box before Raheem Sterling is freed down the left for a cut-back that is blocked behind.

And there it is. A cross into the middle finds Ferran Torres in the box. His glancing header is on target but too close to Aaron Ramsdale, who palms it away.

Still awaiting our first attempt at goal. City with the majority of possession.

It's only a few games into the season and Sheffield United haven't found their rhythm. I do feel teams are more familiar with them, they know what they're up against. They're not an unknown quantity. Performances have been OK, they haven't been poor. They've just been unlucky.

With the best will in the world, Ferran Torres is not going to reach a Riyad Mahrez pass in behind that is a good 20 yards ahead of him and bounces rapidly out of play. We'll call it a sighter.
