It is difficult when you are playing well and losing matches. Confidence starts going.

Brighton's build-up play is fantastic but they just can't stick the ball in the back of the net.

  2. INJURY TIMEpublished at 90 mins

    Tottenham 2-1 Brighton

SIX minutes added on. Plenty of time for Spurs to throw this away yet. If recent games are anything to go by.

  3. CLOSE!published at 88 mins

    Tottenham 2-1 Brighton

Gareth Bale nearly picks up an assist to go with his goal, turning sharply inside the area and finding Gio lo Celso on the edge of the box. He sets off a curler and it flies just beyond the top corner.

Dom: Why would ex players referee? They can be paid good money to sit in the warm and dry, commentating for TV or radio. Or, they can be paid peanuts to get abuse yelled at them for 90 minutes.

Graham: All these stats about Bale are ridiculous. He's been playing golf in Spain for seven years.

Chris: It doesn’t look like Jose Mourinho has learned anything from the West Ham game. They’re just dropping deeper and deeper.

Gareth Bale needs to stick a playlist of his highlights on in the dressing room. He points down the line, asking Moussa Sissoko to play him in, but the Frenchman runs it into the corner instead. Bale shakes his head in dismay.

You can see Brighton are dominating. Tottenham are sitting back and inviting pressure.

  7. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 85 mins

    Tottenham 2-1 Brighton

There's anothe penalty appeal from Brighton, for handball this time against Eric Dier. No dice - although that one really was clearly outside the area.

It's a strange old season. I do believe Tottenham have got a great chance. If they can defend like they can defend, going forward they will always score goals.

Gareth Bale now has the same number of Premier League goals as David Hirst by the way. 43.

One behind Noel Whelan in the list of greats.

Brighton bossing the ball again, the camera pans out to Jose Mourinho and he's not impressed. His side haven't been great tonight. But they are going second in the league.

    It's been a good game.

Brighton have caused Tottenham problems but when you have world superstars you can bring off the bench that is the difference.

    Tottenham 2-1 Brighton

Speaking of forwards who haven't scored in the Premier League since 2012, Danny Welbeck came on for Brighton a few minutes ago. Tariq Lamptey, who is going to be a superstar, is hurt though and can't carry on so the ever-intruiginly-named Alexis Mac Allister comes on.

Gareth Bale is playing on the right of a front three, I should say. Him, Kane, Son, it doesn't get a lot better than that does it?

Brighton have played really well today, can they rally once more and get something from the game?

I just felt that the game had gone a bit flat. It was a great header from Gareth Bale after some good play from Sergio Reguilon.

He has been doing that all his career. That is what he is all about.

That was Gareth Bale's first headed goal in the Premier League since October 2012 v Southampton. What a moment for Bale and for Spurs.

  18. goal

GOAL - Tottenham 2-1 Brightonpublished at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2020

    Gareth Bale (73 mins)

I was about to say when he came on, I'm still not happy about him wearing the number nine shirt, but Gareth Bale has taken that like a true centre-forward!

A fine pass from Toby Alderweireld finds Sergio Reguilon on the left wing, his cross is spot on for Bale who is unmarked, bang in the middle of the goal, and he plants a header into the corner. His first goal for Spurs in seven years and six months!

I can't believe how he has not scored. His touch took him so close to the post. That was a great chance but his touch let him down.

  20. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 71 mins

    Tottenham 1-1 Brighton

An incredible miss! Gareth Bale nods on a corner and Harry Kane hits the post from about four inches out.

I'm not sure how he's managed that! Took it on the thigh and then prodded it against the post. What a miss!
