  1. 'We looked more like ourselves'published at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2020

    FT: Brighton 0-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche to BBC Sport: "We didn't create as much as you'd like. It's tough when you're rebuilding. I thought the mentality was right. We looked more like ourselves with our defensive shape and urgency.

"We know we have to create better chances but it's a base to build on. Ben Mee will get fitter and sharper.

"There were moments where we had a good foothold and we defended well when we had to.

"Three of the last four [performances were good]. We're never a million miles away. We need to get on the right side of margins. It needs to happen quickly."

Paul Collins: It's ok playing like burnley do when it works for you. Before this season it did. But it isn't working this season so why not try another way of playing? What have they got lose? They aren't winning games playing like they do anyway. And Brighton don't score enough.

Callum Donnelly: If we take the lead tonight I'll be immediately screenshotting the league table.

The teams have played each other 100 times in all competitions. Southampton have won 37 times to Newcastle's 40, with 23 draws.

Southampton have lost four of the past five meetings with Newcastle.

The Magpies have lost only two of their 10 matches in all competitions this season (W5, D3).

Newcastle are unbeaten in their last four Premier League away games (W1, D3). They last went longer without an away defeat between May-October 2011, a run of six matches.

  5. 'Happy with a point'published at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2020

    FT: Brighton 0-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley captain Ben Mee: "On the whole, I'm happy with a point. It's a tough place to come. They defended well as a team.

"We've got a lot to work on. But getting a point here is positive.

"No panic. Plenty of games to go, a long way to go."

  6. Is JWP the new free-kick king?published at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2020

    Southampton v Newcastle (20:00 GMT)

David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Gianfranco Zola, Cristiano Ronaldo - the Premier League has had plenty of free-kick experts down the years.

And now there is a new name to add to the list - James Ward-Prowse.

The Southampton midfielder scored with two superb direct set-pieces when his side beat Aston Villa last weekend.

This made him the ninth player in Premier League history to score two direct free-kick goals in a game, and the first since Christian Eriksen for Tottenham against Swansea in October 2015.

Such is his prowess from free-kicks, he is now his club's leading Premier League goalscorer from them - his effort's on Sunday taking him ahead of a man who knew a thing or two about hitting a set-piece - Matt Le Tissier.

Even more impressively, of every Premier League player to have taken more than 50 direct free-kicks since 2003-04, Ward-Prowse has the best conversion rate, with 12.5%.

    FT: Brighton 0-0 Burnley

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton striker Danny Welbeck to Sky Sports: "It was an opportunity to get three points. We could maybe have found a final pass a bit better.

"Nick Pope made a good save [to deny me]. [Improvement] will come with match sharpness. I'm feeling better in each week I'm training.

"We tried our best to get three points and it didn't happen."

  12. A first on top?published at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2020

    Southampton v Newcastle (20:00 GMT)

We're used to seeing Liverpool at the top of the table but by playing on a Friday night, Southampton have been given a huge opportunity to take the throne.

Victory over Newcastle would see Southampton jump from fifth to first on goal difference, level on points with Liverpool.

It would be the first time Southampton would ever finish a day top of the Premier League table.

They last led a top-flight table back in September 1988 under Chris Nicholl.

  13. 'Brighton had better chances and opportunities'published at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2020

    FT: Brighton 0-0 Burnley

    Tony Pulis
Former Stoke manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

Burnley will be pleased, I think they had spells of not really creating anything and Brighton had the better chances and opportunities. They got a lot of crosses in tonight, if I was Graham Potter I'd be having a look at the crosses and the movement of the forwards. Brighton will be disappointed with that, but it's a great point for Burnley.

Stick around for reaction from both camps but I'll start building up to Southampton v Newcastle, which kicks off at 20:00 GMT.

    Brighton 0-0 Burnley

Alireza Jahanbakhsh, Tariq Lamptey and Pascal Gross work together on the right before it's delivered into the box.

    Easy catch for Nick Pope.

Again, he doesn't rush. He bounces it a few times, waves his teammates forward, walks around the box then pumps it long. What are they waiting for?!

  18. Postpublished at 90+1 min

    Brighton 0-0 Burnley

Aaron Connolly is played in down the left but Ben Mee slips again as he runs across to try and intercept.

He ends up bringing down Connolly in the process but nothing comes of it.

We're into stoppage time and neither team look like scoring.

  19. Postpublished at 89 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Burnley

It's brilliant play from Adam Lallana as he coolly chips it over the full-back to feed in Dan Burn.

He's got time and space but absolutely tonks it well out for a goal kick. Neal Maupay is fuming.

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 88 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Burnley

Yves Bissouma is in the book for a foul in his own half but the free-kick comes to nothing.

Burnley don't look in any real urgency considering they are bottom of the table and without a win so far. This game is there for the taking!
